Well Bear opens soon,

Am contemplating seriously baiting for them this year and have 2 bait areas in mind.

Just wondering what folks use? Anybody have extra barrels they'd give away/sell?

Anyone want to tag along?

I don't know much about bears but this time of year go with something sweet. I'd go see a local donut shop and ask him to give you his day olds that he'd throw away.

As for barrels, check out some used sites is my best guess.

Where abouts you hunting? I think I remembered seeing you have a property up around Ompah.

I am in Mississippi Station, very much near Ompah.
I have been told so many things....
bacon, dead beavers, fish guts, cheap dog food, grease, cheap cereal, raspberries...etc...

Just want to know what works best. May try scent sticks. Heard good things about them.

Pretty much anything and everything seems to work. Heck one guy even recommends using Rub A535.

I have hunted bears but just up north and in the spring. All they were using was rancid meats and oils.

When's bear season. I've always wanted to get back into it around here but never seem to have time in the fall with everything I want to do...

Goose, Moose and Deer are usually on my hit list so time is usually a problem

Stop by your local feed mill and get a pail of molasses or tallow, if there is a rock pile, move a few rocks, pour the molasses and then cover again with the rocks. You will know if your site is being hit, because the rocks will be moved.

No rock piles unfortunately. I was reading up on it and a barrel chained to a tree with brush on either side is supposedly a good way to go. Pouring the molasses around the base of the barrel is a good idea..thanks!

Now just to find a barrel!

Been so BORED with WFN lately that I have been tuning into WildTV. The young lad and I are REALLY enjoying the archery shows! I now have dreams of shooting HUGE whitetails and javelina's with my Hoyt! Not to mention its furthered the young lads interest in the outdoors...."Daddy, when can I have a gun?" "Daddy, can I go hunting".....

So proud he's caught bass and pike this year! (tears of joy)

Problem is its plastic. Bears would DESTROY that in no time!

I have claw marks on some plastic screening on my back porch at the property.

The previous owner was a hippy/artist. The guy had 2 drums on Lyn? seed oil in the back of his car. Woke up the next morning and the plastic trim along his car doors were stripped.

My neighbor across the street stepped out on to his patio only to discover a bruin had pulled his new bbq onto the lawn....the bear to 0 notice of him and kept on enjoying the scraps from the grill....

There are a lot in the area. Just a matter of drawing one in when you have gun/bow in hand.

Yeah I figured you were looking for the metal kind but they don't seem to be as easily available.

I think I know of a place near home that has them, I'll go check for you.

Yeah that area holds a lot of bears. I used to own a 70 acre lot in the area and saw them quite frequently when around there. Probably as it was on the hydro line and close to water.

So wish that place wasn't land locked cause I'd still have it. What a pain it was to get in through that hippy commune LOL

Lots of scratched trees and hydro poles that have been scratched up pretty badly in the area too.

Scat and paw marks also.

There's some metal barrels at the store that the previous owner left behind but you have to take whatever might be in them as well!!!!
