Hey all,
I have a 15' grumman canoe and a trolling motor/deep cycle battery... Looking for a decent motor mount. I'd also be interested in perhaps making one -- but obviously don't want to lose the motor due to poor craftsmanship
Ideally it would be not very wide when looked at downwards b/c of a lack of space on the gunwales behind the back seat (see pic)
Suggestions?
canoe outboard mount
i made mine out of 2X4, a block of hardwood, 6" lag bolts, washers and wing nuts.... super easy to build, took me about 30 min with a skill saw......
1Cut one piece of 2X4 about 12" longer than the width of the canoe where you want it mounted.
2. cut second piece so that it fits just under the gunnels. You will need to mark the wood with a pencil to draw the correct angle.
3. Bolt/screw/glue the hardwood to the 2X4 where you want to mount the motor.
4. drill holes through both 2X4 just a few inches in from the gunnels.
5. put lag bolts with washers through and attach wing nuts....
Thats about it... the two 2X4's clamp together between the gunels and the motor stays in place.
I did this for my 16' with a Honda 2hp 4 stroke and it worked just fine.
