First fishing kayak

Hey guys,

Looking to purchase my first fishing kayak. I sat in a Jackson cuda and liked it a lot but also like the looks of the wilderness systems ride 115. Haven't sat in the ride yet. How do the seats compare to the Jackson? Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Chris,

I have no experience with fishing kayaks. All I can offer is that there are usually a few vendors at the ottawa boat and sportsmans show that is next weekend.

I have a Jackson Cuda 14 and love it, dry stable and comfortable. Zero regrets other than I didn't buy one sooner.

I have a Perception Essence 16.5 Airalite (touring kayak). We do Algonquin Park trips every year, so my kayak has to be a bit lighter, and capable of going some distance.

So even though it's not a fishing kayak, I installed a rod holder and it works great.

Bought it from Trailhead... they were just ok (in terms of knowledge and customer service). They had a sale price on their website ($1,200), and when I went in to buy it, they tried telling me that was a mistake ($1,700), but after some convincing, they sold it to me at the advertised price—which was the right thing to do.

there's used to be a store (bushtakka i think) that took a bunch of kayaks to Westboro beach to test drive call the store and inform yourself when and what time they do the demo night ......DANO

Whatever you do, your number one priority should be comfort....pay more for the best seat possible...
My kayak is a cheap pelican...I customized it to match my needs perfectly....its too hard on my back to sit for over 2 hours not matter what pad I add to it....And you should also get a kayak you can stand on....for casting....

If you have the extra coin buy a Hobie Pro Angler.
heavyweight is an understatement but comfort, speed, standability annnd and hands free are all part of the package.
I spend between 6 and 12 hrs in mine at a time .
