A muskie outing pre-fish from SHORE! - PICS ADDED!

Post by DaveH »

OK so my friend and I started out our day on Friday by picking up some minnows and heading out to Taylor park for some shore-fishing!

Now, I'm usually a lure fisherman, so I had never used minnows before and wasn't really sure what to do with them, but we figured we'd try it out!

Anyway, man it was COLD in the morning!! My buddy and I scrambled around for some wood to burn in the little fire-pit by the dock *L* Well lemme tell ya, we'd never do well on Survivor!! LOL FInally got a decent fire going after about an hour of trying *L*

Anyway...fished minnows on smallish trebles with a bobber. Slow slow slow.. I thought real bait was supposed to make fishing easy???

Anyway after a while I finall get some action going on...bobber dissapears under the water and I reef back and set the hook...FIsh on!

Well it felt like there was some actual weight to the fish, but I stil thought it was just a decent bass....then I saw a bit more of the beast and thought...whoah...pike!! Cool....

Then all of a sudden WHIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ goes my drag as this beast decides it wants out of there...and I'm thinking..ok BIG fish *L*

Well after a nice fight and a lot of tightening, then releasing my drag to keep her on the line I finaly get a glimpse of her...MUSKIE!!!! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!

We bring her in for what we hoped would be a fast release, but we were a little unorganised and this took longer than I hoped it would, and with the help of a couple of fella's launching their boat at the time.

Anyway, all said and done she gave me a nice face-wash after reviving her for a short while, and she seemed nice and strong.

I will have pics up later on this weekend!! But she was just a baby a mere 36 inches...HOWEVER...biggest fish I have ever caught, and my first muskie that I can use for points! *LOL* Had a muskie on earlier this year but didn't manage to bring it in the boat.

Anyway, that's part one of our day...

Next we go and pick up a few more minnows, and head out to Long Island. We decided to walk down to the lower dock only to find that the water has been let out and the levels are really really low.

Well we're lazy by nature anyway so we decided to fish there for a little while anyway.

Well glad we did!! I managed to bag a nice 27" pike and my buddy caught HIS first ever muskie!! another 36" incher!!!

What a day lemme tell ya!!!!!

Again, pics to follow as soon as I get my own system back up and running.

Cheers!

musky trip

Hunkering down beside that fire while looking at a bobber seems like a good way to spend Oct.30. Hot dogs, big chair, marshmellows. Leave the minnows at home in case I actually get a bite.

Anyway, see ya at the end of the month. Cold day.........on shore.........warm day, in the boat.

Regards: Jigs.

Here is my nice lil pike I caught!

AND here is my beast!! LOL

Image

And another view of her...oops uploaded to the wrong directory on this one lol

And up until this time, here is the biggest catch for my buddy...all 52 inches of it!!!

Image

And finally he landed this beast...here is the only decent shot we got of my buddy's muskie!!. We did have her out of the water, but she kept us too busy to snap a pic, and it was really difficult getting her out or in, so we didn't want to waste any time...

Sweet fun!!!!

Oh it was a great time for sure!!

I love fishing my my buddy Chad...he and I have known each other since High School, and we always have a great time whatever we do.

I have to admit I was in awe of his weed though, and a little humbled.

I mean the skill to bring that puppy out of the water was something else!!

Hey, Dave. Fun stuff. And any muskie is a good muskie to catch!

Thx for posting the pics!
