Hey gear guys! This any good?

Just what the title says....anything and everything related to Rods, Reels, Terminal Tackle, Plastics, what others are using, what works, what doesn't work, and anything else you want to talk about regarding equipment.

Hey,

Just throwing this out to you and maybe you can advise.

There is a website called Aliexpress....

Basically these reels will come with Chinese markings BUT they are what was made for the bigger companies and so are sold WAY cheaper.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-10-1 ... 14449.html

Here is just one for an example. There is MANY more!
$0.87 for a cast champ is pretty darn good for the trout guys!

Well I know that the clothing is not knock off but actually run-offs for the production line.
China has different IP laws than North America. Most things are made in off-shore anyways.

My point was do you think any of this gear is any good?? For $30 if its crapola you are only out $30 right?

I would probably stay away. For $30, its going to be junk. They kind of look like low end Quantums and if they was ever a reel from one of the big companies not to copy, they would be it IMO!

Obviously I have no real proof of it being junk but with reels, you get what you pay for. For someone getting into baitcasting, I would never recommend a $30 reel and for someone who uses baitcasters I doubt they would buy a $30 baitcaster.

I wouldn't touch that junk Jimmy. Ultra lightweight means cheap plastic mostly and those bearings will be super cheaply made. That warranty is a joke. Save your hard earned money bud and buy decent quality.

I say try it! If you don't like it, you can get your $$ on Kijiji.

...then again, I a little biased!

Ok but what if I upgrade the bearing etc using the after-market suppliers posted on here?

Could I not concievably end up with something really slick and good for under $100 that way?

After reading the specs..its safe to say I would have those gears turned to mush after a couple outings with one :D

Jimmy,

I took a look at those reels and for $30.00, I would say you are getting what you pay for if you end up going this route. The Abu Garcia Black Max is listed on that site for $55.00. That reel is IMO Junk. It has no free spool, is heavy, and over all looks cheaply made. I could only imagine that this one would be worse.

I also don’t think upgrading the bearing would be worthwhile. I would guess that a pair of decent replacement bearing would add another $15.00 to your reel. You could spend way more, but you would have to ask yourself it would be worth it because if you Dropped Boca Abec 7 orange seals in there, you would be looking at around $40.00 extra dollars. Also unlike most other quality reels, you would have to measure the inner and outer races to see if you could get one that would fit.

I say if you want to, go for it, but I would rather throw $39.99 into one of my reels that I already own than spend it on something like that.

Thanks for the constructive input gentlemen.

It is appreciated.

I was only trying to ascertain whether it was possible to buy one of these reals and upgrade it.

Therefore I will ask what some decent, lesser priced reels on the market might be?
I have not purchased any fishing gear (other than tackel) in 3 years. As before that I had invested and divested heavily.

This advice may also appeal to other members who don't/can't justify $300+ reel or rod purchases.
