Marten River Lake Trout

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Marten River Lake Trout

Post by fishinfool »

I have booked at Marten River Lodge this long weekend and while speaking with the owner he told me that the lake trout are up shallow. I have often seen the lakers on the fishfinder in the summer but they are really deep and I have never targeted them.
Could someone give me some advice as to how to get me a few of these fish. Should I be fishing them just like Pike, what do I use, what kind of stucture or weed or drop off etc etc.
At least if I don't have any luck with them, I know lots of spots for Walleye and Pike.
Thanks Guys & Gals

Hey Fool

We tried trolling all over hells half acre last year while up in that area at Temagami Lake. Turned out the guy catching all the fish at the lodge was fishing in about 20-25 feet just off of a point, right at first light for the first couple hours. He used minnows and a bobber. The minnows had to be hooked through the back and exactly 6 feet under the bobber. Anything else, and you wouldn't catch fish.

Somebody should know just how to get them where you're going, if you can, find out. If you can't, keep an open mind.

I spent a weekend at Marten River about 10 years ago, late May as well. One of the guys on our trip caught a laker on a jig and minnow, 15 feet of water.

Hey Moosebunk and Mick
It sounds like you are both telling me basically the same thing, so I will have to use a few of the Walleye minnows and get up real early.
Thanks for the advice, wish me luck and I will bring back lots of pics.
Ciao for now!!
