Marten River Walleye (pics)

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Marten River Walleye (pics)

Post by fishinfool »

What a great weekend, the weather was awesome the whole weekend and the fish co-operated, well not the Lakers but the Walleye and Pike were hitting hard.
Marten River was lower than I have seen in 30 years, apparently they haven't had much rain and Wicksteed Lake is very low, which means there wasn't much of a flow down in Marten. I thought that would make the eyes a little tougher to get but I was surprised, most people got their limit Sat and Sun. I was lucky enough to pick up 3 around 2-3 pound range and threw back half a dozen dinks around 1/2 lb or so.
I also picked up 4 Smallies and promptly got them back into the water. Missed a big pike, he hit right beside the boat and I almost fell in, this fish was %^&$^&E$% Huge, I think this would have been the biggest for me yet. My drag was way to tight and the mistake cost me a new X-Rap in clown color, not to mention having to go all the way back to camp to change my underwear.LOL
The blackflies were really thick but they weren't biting yet which was good because they would have carried me off.
My uncle Andy used to own the lodge that we stayed at this weekend when I was 13 years old and it brought back some fond memories. Can't wait to get back up there.
