some advice?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

some advice?

Post by shep0 »

hi... Im new here, Slop is a friend of mine and he mentioned this site to help guide me to some info regarding some tournaments this summer. Im picking up fishing again, and I was interested in getting my feet a little wet by entering in some tournaments. It will be my first tourn. and I was told to ask some one about being a non boater. I have my own boat, but its an old alum. Im in Ottawa so If any one has info about some tournies out my way or around here and who I talk to about being a non boater then please give me a shout! Thanx a lot ~shep0~

you have a boat?

Why not use your boat for a tourny? It's not a fashion show, hey, I have an aluminum, I would surely use it in a tourny and catch great fish and then tell all the guys out there with 50,000 dollar boats that mine cost 200 bucks and I still got the same amount of fish as they did!!!

It doesn't have to be big and flashy as long as the motor works and it floats!!

This series was looking for a non-boater. I don't know if they've got one yet. You may want to give them a try.

The people you want to be talking to are the Ottawa Valley South Bassmasters... they are looking for a non-boater for this years tournaments. Don't waste too much time contacting them though because Bass season is just around the corner.

Chris if you have never fished a tournament before in your boat .... I would highly recommend you do some research on what is required to angle in any of the local tournaments. Above all else the welfare of the fish caught is most important so you would want to make sure you had a livewell. I have seen a couple of people do ok fishing from small boats but it is by far not the usual type of boat that makes the top ten in tourneys.

Go ahead and use your boat, install a livewell and some electronics 8) ... I have a small alum. and have done quite well, you can often get into places the larger boat's can't :) . Also there are some of them that terrified to get there bass boat to shallow for fear of scratching it. It will certainly cut down on your fishing time, due to the fact that it take's you longer to get to where it is you are going, and of course you will have to hed back earlier to make the way in :( ... When these guy's started fishing tourney's, I'd bet that not all of them had the toy's that they have now, and just because someone own's a bassboat doe's not make them a good fisherman or women...

As for the top 10  . You can pretty much tell who they are going to be even before the tourney starts :o ... Now get out there and kick some ACE...good luck

Hey Shep0,

Welcome to Fish-Hawk.Net. Here is a link to various tournaments that may be of interest. Don't worry about your boat. It's not the boat that catches fish, it's the people inside it. All you really need is a livewell. Figure that out and you're on your way.

Good luck and have fun.

P.S. One question, some one Mentioned that I sign up as a non boater now for the season..? Does this mean Im a non boater for the whole season, or just that one tournament? Another Question, Who do or where can I find a cheap used boat motor (in board) I think, Im trying to restore an old police Boat that was given to my father. The Old motor was submurged in the St. Lawrance for a while... Thanx...

You are a non-boater for the whole season. The OVSB start with the number of boaters/non-boaters and the non-boaters rotate between the boaters for the five tournaments. You should be emailing Tim Barker (timbaker68@hotmail.com) who will have all the answers.
