This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rideau River Fishing Hot Spots

Post by lobb »

My brother and I normally fish the Rideau between Manotick and Kars. Are there any people familiar with this stretch of the river that have a few proven spots for Pickerel, Pike & Bass (in season). Either that, or can someone reccomend another part of the Rideau which consistantly produces fish? Because of the weeds, we normally try to find the edge of a bed and fish crankbaits, are there any other methods we should eb using?

Just south of Long Island about 1 Km is one stretch on the west side with no houses. Work the west side of the channel where the buoys are fairly close together. Used to catch a little bit of everything there.

I appreciate everyone's replies, thanks.

We normally fish for Pickeral, Pike & Bass, but for the most part Pickeral. We normally fish a very small point between Kars & Manotick just down (on the Kars side) from the waterside gas station/restaurant (just past the marina). It's kind of hard to describe the area, but people who live close to this spot have a pirate flag and we fish in front of a house with a Canadian flag pole comming out of the middle of a garden on their lawn. This has been the most consistant spot we have tried.

As for everyone who mentions using jigs, how do you work them, just under the boat, or casting out and drifting on bottom.

Yes I know it well. "Moskito point" Great walleye spot.

As mentioned troll between the narrow markers just south of the long island 9pm ish.

When I target walleye on the Rideau I look for fast current along deep rockey shore lines.

Another hint. White

Long Island is the part of Manotick between the two bridges (the back channel and the main channel) . The public school is on the island.

Can't go wrong fishing the 416 Bridge. Lots of walleye there, as well as every other species. Fish with a jig tipped with some bait.

Is long island the point right near Manotick where the river forks off into the start of the Jock? There is a big weedy point there, I've trolled between the boat markers and it's full of weeds, are we talking about the same spot?

Long Island starts at the locks and goes to about where Manotick Cement is on River Road.
At the Mill on the island you'll find walleye, carp and one BIG musky at bottom of dam and bass plus perch and sunfish at top.
