Evinrude Engine - Manual Trim mod

Hi guys,

I have an older boat with an Evinrude 70hp (1979) which has a manual trim. You can either put the engine all the way down or up. I am looking for advice on how I can possibly create a homemade setup to manually trim the engine half-way up. I busted 2 props already fishing in a local river and would really like to avoid problems in the future. For now, I use an electric engine when I know i'll be in shallow water but accidents still happen ...

You might try a ratchet strap or something similar with 2 'hooks' on either side.
Find the right lenght and leave it there. Then, when you want to lift the motor, bring it to the right height (or just a little higher) to get the ratchet strap on.
Bingo, you're covered - disclaimer - this assumes you are pretty well at crawling speed with the motor. This would not work at higher rpms.

Good luck. Get us some pics of your boat and motor. Perhaps if we can see it, we can come up with some good ideas.

if you fish that often in shallows then just spring for the bolt-on trim&tilt....lotsa manufacturers to choose from.....you'll spend the same $$$ on prop rebuild/replacements and no more risk of damaging anything else when you hit again(propshaft/lock up your whole engine...) Let alone being stranded out there

Thanks for the advice guys. For now, I'm not looking to spend alot of $$$ on this older boat. I like the ratchet strap idea. Will look into it this weekend.
