Ottawa River....tips

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Ottawa River....tips

Post by Alleycat »

Hey folks,
Very new to fishing the Ottawa River and must say
that I'm not having much luck. I'm targeting bass.

Any help with some half decent locations would be much apreciated.

Tks

I'm with RJ. More detail would be helpful. And, are you in a boat or on shore.
If you're fishing the Rockland area, and I can throw you a bone or 2.

Ya I guess you need more info...sorry gents.
I was sure I had included that. The ex did say I had a communication problem!

I'll be launching at Cumberland. Range wise I should be
good for at least 15 miles or so.
So I guess any where between Ottawa and Wendover.
I'd like to pick up a map somewhere maybe.
:?:

Tks again

Big stretch of water...

The Ottawa River can be tough. The fish either seem to be really on or totally off. Try any of the back bays (Lochebar, Black bay, Opp Bay, etc.). Some shoreline strecthes produce fish as well. Reeds across from Rockland launch and in front of Turso pulp and paper mill.

Frog baits in the lilly pads/slop work good. Try flipping tubes, flipping jigs, worms, etc. In the evening buzzbaits and top water work good along the weed edge.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Maps - The FISHING ONTARIO - EASTERN ONTARIO edition has that strech of the Ottawa in it. Also, perhaps the Adventure Map series cover it (available at Sports Action)- not sure about that though.

I don't fish that section myself, in fact once bass season opens I rarely fish the Ottawa I'm usually on the Miss or Mad somewhere.
There are few problems in life which can not be solved with a well-placed, high-explosive projectile.

Thanks Pro-bassing,
Thats some good info, tried some worms and spinnerbaits
on the Que side across from Petrie Island. Tough going, a couple
follower's thats it. Then one heck of a rough ride back to the launch.
Can get some big white caps out there!!!!
