Hell of a Tool

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Day All
I find I have to voice a thaght here...
Sorry if this causes any S#@$,has to be said
Its contraversial for those who fish in this manner.
If you can call it fishing??????????
I haven't been able to fish much this Year cause of work.
When I do get out its relaxing and great to comun back w/Nature.
We're starting to hear more an more about on going Law Breakers on
the subject of Snaggers an Poachers.(glad to hear their cracking down,
about time).
I primarily shore fish for Salmon in Various Rivers East of T.O
As seasons come an go,I'm seeing more an more Snagging of Salmon.
The part that scares me is the fact that they(snaggers) are getting more
ignorante.
Saturday I tripped up to fish and managed to get snagged on this piece of
gear.
Pictures aren't to clear, but you get the ideal

What scares me even more is they(snaggers)are getting younger and braver
On today's outing I witnest 3 young lads(12-15)walking along the edge, rods in hand, and purpasly attempting to snag Salmon in shallow waters
This is at Noon,broad daylite.
All we can do is try an educate and point out their doing wrong.
In response to letting them know,in return I got
"We know,it's Fun,Now F@#$ Off"
Made me want to punch the Puocks in the face
And the saddest part of All,other Adults where standing around, watching an encourage these kids to catch fish
So my thaught is"Is our way of Educating these people Working,or is it Falling on Deaf ears?"
I am going to keep pointing this out to people I see doing this,
eventially something will work,
I now will carry my cell with me,Speed Dial for Ministry,an start calling
May Not be the Time or Place to Post this?but then again When and Where is?

:D nothing wrong with the post..it just points out things that are wrong and attitudes. Your idea with the phone is good as long as you dont drop it in the river. Government cut backs are what have resulted in the problems. Massive areas for a few C.O'S to cover. alot of water between the lakes and streams. Cambridge District covers a massive area that stretches over much of southern Ontario. You did what you could..any thing more and you could end up getting charged. All we can do as fisherman is try and educate. At least you didnt ignore it.

This is the one I found when I was fishing the Niagara River in the spring .

Not sure if this was posted here allready ,,, sorry if it was .

Found this on the Niagara site

The Ganaraska River was plagued early Monday morning by foul-hookers from Ottawa.

A group of six men visiting Port Hope this weekend took advantage of a quiet and dark river bank during yesterday’s early morning hours and a throng spawning salmon.

Following a citizen’s complaint at about 2:30 a.m., police officers arrived to the area of the river north of the Robertson Street bridge — closed to anglers as of Friday, Sept. 30 — to find fish being illegally pulled from the water by a technique called snagging or foul-hooking — aggressively jerking a weighted hook or anchor through water in order to hook a fish anywhere on its body.

Legal fishing requires a fish to actively strike and bite on a hook.

Hooking a fish anywhere else on the body, or even on the outside of the mouth (hook piercing from the outside in, instead of from the inside out), is considered foul-hooking — a violation of angling regulations, explained J.J. Beechie, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Natural Resources.

“It’s too easy to do. It’s shooting fish in a barrel,” he said explaining why the activity is illegal. “It’s just not fair.”

While it is possible for anglers to accidentally snag a fish in a crowded spawning tributary, that person will not be fined if the fish is released.

The group of men who are currently awaiting numerous fines for their unsportsmanlike behaviour, were found to be in possession of 20 salmon that were discovered in the back of their vehicle — about 15 more than they should have, even if they were fishing legally.

During the appropriate time of year, an angler carrying either a seasonal licence, or a conservation licence is allowed to catch and possess up to five salmon in one day.

Only two of the six men questioned by police carried a fishing licence, and just one of them had a fishing rod.

According to Port Hope Police Service communications officer Jim Dunn, the other five were trapping salmon with nets.

The penalties for fishing offences can be up to $100,000 depending on the severity of the offence.

While Mr. Beechie said the anglers along the Ganaraska River are generally good at policing themselves, the offence occurs too often. This season, he said about 12 charges were handed to those fishing along the Ganaraska River. About 20 charges were laid in total, in Mr. Beechie’s district, which covers everywhere from Lindsay to Tweed and south to Lake Ontario.

“Unfortunately there are always people who are tempted to take advantage of the situation,” he said.

Monday’s charges will be sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources for processing.
