walleye bay today
I went out with a first timer today and its hard to believe he is Canadian.
This lad wore 3 pair of socks a plastic bag and a pair of runners.(Idiot)
So the bait shop opens at 9 and we were there at 7:30< Buddy needs a license so has to wait. we cut holes< I set 2 lines up w/worms on jigs and we wait. No action. At 9 I sent him off to get a license and minnows. SAure enough he comes back w/minnows and no license, "he wouldn't sell me one cause it is only good for 1 week.
I tell him it is good til the 31st and regardless it is up to you whether or not you want to waste 20 bucks. ( I know Dennis? was only trying to save him money, cause he would have to do it all over in 2 weeks). Back he comes w/a license. Gets his second minnow in and just then I get a hit on A line I just started jigging. Oh boy we got some weight on here. Of course in true norm fashion I have only 2 turns of line on the reel, so cant really play her/him.I reel in and let her pull it out again, back and forth for 10 minutes. I finally get her up to the hole but she goes broadside and down again. By this time I fuiogure she is tiring and pull up again. The head appears the down, this time I tell Scott grab her when she surfaces again. Wham he grabs her(surprisingly properly) and is holding my second Muskie of the year. Around 30" I dont know 12-13 lb????. Wer pull the hook out of the side of the lip[ and send her home. Another minow on, waiting, waiting, nothing so I check the olg woodie static lines First minnow good to go, look up and #2 is straight down, run over, set the hook and this wasn't as heavy. I was able to pull her straight out and landad a pike almost as long but nowhere the girth.
Buddy lost 3 minnows and thought no bites, I then lost one on a light tug. Must have been walleye.I like to think
SAo as a first day of the season this was my personal besat.
