Vexilar

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

The vex FL-8 would be the least expensive one to buy, it does whatever you need to know, but the vex fl-18 has a couple of features that are very nice, like the spilt screen with one side of the screen shows you only the first 6 feet of water starting from bottom. But the FL-18 is more expensive, but worth it. Then there's the Marcum LX5(???). It's anotherflasher about the same price as the FL-18 but the zoom feature like the one on the FL-18 is actually moveable. So it doesn't automatically zoom in on the first 6 feet. But I've never seen the Marcum work. But knowing then what I know now. I got equipped for ice fishing this year I bought all the expensive stuff this year , Survival suit, gas auger and Vex. But if I would've been able to only buy one thing. Before i used the Vex It would'cve been the Gas auger, But now if I had to restart my first purchase would be the Vex, it takes the guesswork out of the Ice Fishing equation.. Which ever one you buy will probably more than triple your catches.

Good Luck There's always used ones that come up for sale, but they don't last long on the market so if u see one for sale show interest right away.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

I recently got to demo the Fl-18 in the gens pack, which is also sold in the porpack and ultra pack. This machine is a 3 color flasher.

Green: weak sginal meaning either debris or just surface interference.

orange: a stronger signal meaning fish , alot of times it shows your lure as orange.

Red: strong signal this is a fish which usually has a red bar outlined by orange. and also it shows a solid bar for the bottom very thick also this machines shows thicker bars for bigger fish/

It depeneds on what unit your getting , let me know and i could elaborate more on each specific unit.

Yeah we just just purchased the pro pack fl-8se 3 colour flsher. It does everything we need, and more. We have been slowly purchasing and trying to find extra things such as lights and sheilds to add on to it.

Here is the LARGEST problem with having a vexilar!
once you use one, you will never fish without one again. It will help increase the amount of fish you catch bye 1000000000%

If you want to go the extra way and spend a few extra bucks go for the fl-18. Or a marcum flasher.

If you want to keep the extra money in your pocket you can go with a fl-8se Pro Pack, or Genz Pack. The only difference between these 2 units is the case they come with. The Genz Pack is blue and if i am not mistaken ti is in the shape as a rectangle. The Pro Pack is black and circle so it fits inside a 5 gal bucket. Another feature the Pro Pack has is the battery level indicator which i dont use much because i charge my battery after each use and the level is always at 100%

I f you have any questions let me know!

HI BRUIN

IT realy depend your need,,,,,,,,what deepth your fishing, your budget,,etc etc...

there some good use one,,,,,,,,,if sombody dont want to spend a fortune,,,,and try it to see if they do like it,,,,,,,,and after you try it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you scratch your head, and ask yourself,,,,,,,,HOW did i fish all those year without one,,,,,,,,, 8) ,you wont regret it,i am sher off this.....its like an nintendo or an x box,,but its for fisherman,,,,nice toys............

i hown a vex 18 pro pack and i do like it,,,,,,,like the zoom,,,,its nice to have for walleye fishing and you want to zoom the last 5 feet off the bottom,,,so then 1/2 my screen its the last 5 feet or so,,,,,and the other 1/2 off my screen is the full colon off water......

both fish finder are great the model 8 and the 18,,,,,,

but i went fishing wit iceman once, he got an marcum lx5,,,,,,,and i love it,,,,,,it got more power,,,,,,,like 4 time the power off an vexilar,,,,,,the colors are the true colors on it,,,,,,,the soft case come wit it,,,,its not extra money like vexilar,,,,,,,and the zoom is flexable,,,,,,you can put it anywhere in the water colon,so you could zone right in the middle,,,ex for some whitefish that are in suspension,,or crappies etc,,,,very nice feature to have,,,,,,,,SO FOR the monney,i do thing a marcum lx5 have more feature then a vexilar 18,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

you have more for your monney wit a marcum lax5 then a vexialr 18,,,,,,,you even have one extra year off warenty then the vex....

but your best bet,,,,,is to take a test drive,,,,,,,,,,,,,go try some,,,,or see some in action,,,,,,,,,there always sombody on ice ,,,that will show is unit.....if you ever come where i fish,,,,,i could let you try a bit,,,,my unit no probleme,,,,,,,,the probleme its after, you wont let go,,,,,

take crae and have great shoping ........always fun looking for new toys.......

for a marcum,,,,,,,,,call ED frome paddletell i will hook you up,,,,

Just thought I would give you an idea on what you would see on your screen(Crappie bay of coarse  )...I am in 19 FOW and my jig is in 9FOW.You can see it going up and down....All signals under that jig are fish and lots of them.

Prices

Post by Bruin »

What is the cheapest price found for an FL8
and fl18

There is a place up in T-bay that has the FL8 on for 375 CAN plus tax

425.44 out the door....
and they'll ship it courier or whatever you want...

Good price???
Average price for used FL8 or 18

Is there that much of a difference between the 2
Should I wait till the fall buy a new fl18 or marcum

Buy what you can afford lad and the FL-8 is basic entry model . The best bang for your buck is Marcum and for the price of an Fl-18 without even a soft pack and dcs charging system you can get all with a Marcum . Marcums come standard with the dcs charging system and soft pack . If you can go Marcum LX-5 you will have the most advanced feature loaded flasher on the market which no other manufacture at this moment can compare too pricewise or otherwise .
