Has anyone purchased any new or used reels on ebay.....I heard you really get dinged on duty if it's made elsewhere than than US? Is this true?
I have purchased some abu power handles in the past through a retailer, very reasonable prices, I only paid shipping and the exchange rate.
Thanks

Couple things, Ransome is correct about Couriers, avoid at all costs. They are the real hosers of the shipping world.
The other thing is, if an item is Made in Canada you should not be paying duty on it. So if you buy something from the US that was made in Canada, have the sender cleary mark this on the package, on all sides, and big enough to read.
Now that being said. The free-Trade agreement has had effects as well, so there are even items made in the USA that should be duty free now. A call to Customs and Excise will tell you about the item in question.
Now remember, you will still pay GST and Ontario PST as well as a handling charge of $5.00 I believe it is now.

Peppino:
Be careful. Make sure item is shipped by U.S Postal Service and not U.P.S. Have had bad experience with U.P.S. Many people confuse the two. U.P.S is a courier company that delivers item and collects customs and duty. You are at their mercy. I hope I have not offended anyone who works there , but that is my experience. Have ordered from many fishing stores in U.S. such as Cabelas, Basspro, and Franks Great Outdoors and they tell you how much shipping and duty will be before you place order. I would rather know that before placing order, but that's just me. Good Luck!
