supporting our fisheries

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

supporting our fisheries

Post by barblessbob »

are you a member of an organized fish/wildlife group???

if not then why!!!!

there are 2140 registered members on fish-hawk only 50 members at
Muskies Canada OV chapter. yet i see alot of posts of Hawkers going muskie fishing shame, shame

i'm not sure of the number of members in OFAH from the ottawa
valley but i'm sure it's not a very gd representation and the same for trouts unlimited, again i see alot of posts

support your local grps to insure we still have a fishery in our area for our kids to enjoy

someone has to protect our fisheries so you and i can enjoy it
but without suppport it's a loosing battle

please join a grp, you don't have to get involved if your to busy with
work/kids, just join

thanks my 2 cents

Very true. Joining organizations like the OFAH or Ducks Unlimited helps the sport of fishing for years to come.

Lots of people say "it's really expensive" but the real question is: How much would you spend to keep our rights to fish intact?

I hope you're not directing this at Steve

While I do agree that these groups are an immense help to the protection of our fisheries, the truth is if you buy your annual fishing license this is all you need to enjoy fishing our Ontario waters. To shame someone for not going above and beyond and joining other groups is ludicrous. Grow up.

true your licence is all you need to ENJOY fishing
but does nothing to protect the fish your targeting

you pay taxes on the car you buy & on the gas you put in it
and how much goes to roads?????

if your relying on the govt to protect and continue stocking
your living in a perfect world

your licence gives you the legal right to fish thats it
most think it protects and maintains. it does to a certain point
a very limited point

Nofish, I strongly agree with much of what you mentioned in your original post. I think perhaps you could have come across a little more positive, like maybe a challenge for folks to get out there and give a little back to protect our fisheries.

Instead, coming up with this gem...

... you trying to say anyone who targets musky without being a member of Muskies Canada is doing something wrong? Many would beg to differ. Muskies Canada has done wonderful things to preserve and manage that species but for you to alienate folks who fish for that species without being a member? Kinda dumb way to get someone interested in joining don't ya think?

Bucket my comment was for anyone who thinks that if they don't do there part that somehow fishing will just allways be there. Groups like PETA have much more money than our lic generate and without groups like OFAH I hate to think what would happen to our sport. I beleive the gov dosn't care either way?

my shame shame was for the numbers.

would it have been more positive had i asked how many hawkers are members of OFAH/muskies canada vs the number of actual members??

my point is alot of people use a resourse expecting either the gov't or someone else to do the work for their enjoyment

i'm not dissing anyone on this board for not being a member
just stating the obvious.

alot of people including me do nothing but expect alot
imagined if people supported a grp any grp how strong our fisheries would be!!!!

those of you who have kids just look at the teachers very stong union
can take on the govt and win
