Pond trout?

Next weekend I will be fishing a derby at my cottage that the locals put together every year...It is being held on a small lake(About the size of a large pond)with a few fish species in it....Main fish include bass,hammer handle size pike and perch...Every year they also stock this pond with speckled trout for the purpose of this event.

My guess is the past few years stockings have been consumed by the resident pike

We fished for em' last year but could not get a spec to hit..we were also fishing the middle of the pond which I have been told was the wrong place to set-up

I have fished wild brookies in lakes during the summer, but never a stocked brookie through ice...

What I am getting at is....

What depth should I be setting lines for these fish?
What kind of set-ups I would employ to catch em'?
I have an Idea on bait but not quite sure..red belly dace or small shrimp(Deadly on stocked bows)?
While I have set lines out, Im plannig on jigging small spoons and jigs tipped with??

If we could get some info it would help jiggy and I out a lot...If you like keeping your techniques a secret, then jiggy and I will still fish em' hard and let you guys know how we did..Below are the best pictures of the pond to give you an idea on where we will be fishing..

I have never fished trout before so cant help but I do want to wish you two luck and catch a winner for Uncle Gibby

Do you know what the trout where fed with before they were stocked

into the lake?? Sometimes when the fish come from a farm or hatchery

they take time to get acclimated to real food from the pellets they were

fed. You could try to chum the area a bit the ice does make it tough.

were they stocked in the fall?? If they were they could be all dead

Winter is tough on larger stocked fish they sometimes dont really know

how to behave . Sounds like fun keep us posted

Fish in water from 3' to 10' right close to shore. If there is a fallen tree or log drill a hole there. Look for a hard shore and bottom. Use what minnows you can get small dace, small shiners etc. on set lines. Fish a small spoon jig like a pimple or EBG tipped with a piece of minnow too. Don't move alot or make alot of commotion remember these fish are shallow.

Ganman couldn't have said it better

1) structure
2) depth 4-10'
3) dace 2-2.5"
4) direct tie your line to your hook
5) split shot 1.5' up from your hook
6) small hook
7) I use a twig to wrap my line on over the hole , really flexable and sensitive, to see minnow movement

be really, really quiet - if I'm close to shore .I get off the ice

I have had good luck with this , but it all boils down to , if the fish are not biting ya ain't gonna catch nun

6" sucker minnow on a shiney big jiggin spoon. Then when the pike grabs it, slit his belly open and remove the trout he's fattened up on.

Just kidding - sort of.

Speckles and pike don't mix well, I'm not very optimistic.

In colder weather the trout will be in deeper water....where it is a little warmer. try different depths...but get close to the deepest I would say. We have a stocked pond here near niagara falls and that what I do is find the deeper water. I would try just a small minnow, on a small hook....but could be different there!

remember trout bonanza tread,,,,,,,

we caught them frome 4 feet to 16 feet.........so i would drill hole all over the place,,,,,,and try it........nto loose hey.....

......

I fished this derby with bacon and snag last year..T'was a blast.We got into some jumbo perch

.....and no trout

This year Jbarker is going to meet me on the ice, and is going to give me the low down on stocked trout fishin!!

Looking to fill a bucket of perch too
