slow day of steelheading

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

slow day of steelheading

Post by Italian 4 life »

Went to tributary today looking for some steelies. Hoping with the rain we got earlier on Friday would bring in a new run. Well, guess it wasn’t enough to bring in another run, but it sure did push the fish in the all year sections further upstream into the close sections. Did manage to get one on the pin for the first time :) . felt good . Only lasted for a minute, then the hook popped out :( . Also witnessed a big sucker caught. Only 27 more days people before the trout opener.Remember to pick up yours, and other peoples trash too. And if you see any wildlife crime’s (such as snagging and poaching), please report to the local authorities. Keep it clean and ethical people.

Hi Italian 4 Life - today, I got up at 2:00 am and made the drive to the Port Hope/Bowmanville stretch for the first time in ages. It was awesome!!! I'm a big time amateur at this rainbow/steelhead stuff, but, it was great. I landed a 9+ male and one of the other guys with us land a female the same size and was excited about the roe he got.

We were lucky - the spot we went to was private land on the one shoreling, so, the shoulder to shoulder fishing was not present.

Our host did mention that the main group had already pushed through and were in the "out of season" stretches - he thinks that on opener, guys are going to have a great start.

Now I have to go back and try it again instead of waiting 4 years like last time.

Glad you had more luck than me bro. Nice job on the big male 8) . Must have put on a good scrap. Just one thing, please keep the naming of rivers down to a minimum, or else it will be shoulder to shoulder. Keep up the good work bro. By the way things are going, the opener may be tough fishing, but you never know what's going to happen.

Kept my eye's open yesterday for ya on the creeks - were you out chasing any? Saw a fella land a nice brown - none for us, but, some nice steelies/'bows.
