GAR FISHING

HI ALL



I would love GAR fishing info......


i am going to get my boat this week........and will love to go get some BIG GAR.........i saw some 2 time last year........one time i saw a lot off them the other time saw some BIG one..........the 2 time was close to victoria.....

but i read some tread last year about huge GAR in the ouest part off the river..........so i think i will go take a look down there soon....


last night as i was fishing victoria shore...there was some minnows jumping and i saw some fish(more just a wave motion just under he surface but not small,,,,,,,,,and i was almost sher those was frome gar or pike going after them......i saw some wave like that a cople off time,,but it was to dark to see what it was..... :? ......


so that one more species i want to hunt this year..............GAR

HI remember R.J and muskiemagnuet BIG GAR from last year...about 1 year ago........end off may and start off june....so it must be the time just about right now.......to go get them........ :P :wink:


the hunt for huge gar is on.... :o

joco,

Before I read your part of the post where you mentioned them, the 1st folks I thought of when I saw "Gar Fishing" were RJ & MM. Also, I recall Bacon, Markus and Snag's adventures with the toothy gar!!

Good luck. I can't offer you any advice as I don't know a thing about them, short of what I've read here. I just love the gar reports, though.

One day, I'd like to include them in my (caught) species list.

you are right bacon,markus and snag got some nice one to........but i was thinking the huge one rj and muskymagnet caught.......some canadian record size last year.................. :shock:


i will looking for big one......... :wink:

The best lure is not a lure at all it is a frade piece of nylon rpoe about 10-12" long ..................when they bite it there Finr teeth get caught .........and they hit like a freight train ..........

I've heard that, too, Sprocketman. Another reason not to dangle your fingers and toes overboard in toothy waters... :twisted:

Nylon rope is fine, but, there also has to be a hook attached to the end of that line or you will be fishing illegally.

There are definitely gar in the west end of the Ottawa. Have seen them in very shallow water - around my legs! - :shock: while walking my kayak to shore. Can't really comment on how large they are compared to others (it was the first time I've ever seen them) but I'd guess they were a couple of feet long anyway... Big enough to really disturb the water when they started thrashing around - guess they're not big fans of hairy legs :D
