Hello Fish Hawk and members,
I have been reading the boards for a few weeks now. I just thought I would introduce myself. With a little question attached.
My name is Ron Buckle. I have been fishing on and off for about 20 years. In the past 2 years I have become more involved. Specifically this year. Over the past year I have been able to hone my skills enough that I catch something each time I head out. I find myself wanting to go fishing daily now. I am primarily a catch and release angler. I do, however, keep the odd one to eat. I primarily fish the east side of Simcoe. I live a 5 min walk from the closest dock I can fish off of. Even though I don't have the time to attend a fishing trip. I do want to fish alot more with my cousin and brother. They are both very knowledgable to the sport and do probably get to fish a lot more than I. I tend to fish solo a lot. Most of the time blind, and not knowing what I am doing.
Anyhow, My first question and one that I have often wondered yet never thought to ask when someone that might now is around.
I have only ever used 14lbs test line. I know that's excesive for most of the fish I catch. What are the guidelines for line? I mean what line do I use for size and type of fish?
If you just have a link I can go to to read that's fine too. Thanks for all your help.
Hello! A Little introduction and question.
Welcome to the board. I use alot of 10lb Fins PRT braid with a florocarbon leader for most of my walleye and smallmouth action and then I step up to 30-50lb for largies and muskie. For panfish action like fall perch on Simcoe 2-4lb test Trilene or florocarbon works great. Again welcome to a great board and ask away the questions. There is alot of great anglers on here that will share information.
