LAKERS

Post by last cast »

HEY HOGG HUNTER ;
EVEN THOUGH THE NIAGARA BAR HAS SOME PHENOMINAL LAKER ACTION , IF YOU DON'T HAVE A BOAT , THERE'S ALWAYS THE NIAGARA GORGE . STARTING IN FEB. RIGHT THROUGH TO MAY WE'VE DONE PRETTY GOOD FOR LAKERS WITH A NICE MIX OF STEELIES AS WELL . IF YOU'RE WILLING TO TAKE THE 20 MIN. WALK DOWN......(THE WALK BACK UP IS A LITTLE LONGER WITH A LOT MORE LUNG POWER . ) IT'S WORTH THE TRIP . 3" WHITE SASSIES OR GRUBS ON A 3/8 TO HALF OUNCE BALL HEAD JIG OR GOLD SPOONS ALWAYS SEEM TO WORK GOOD . LAKERS SEEM TO RANGE FROM 8TO 25 LBS. IF YOU NEED TO KNOW MORE OR WANT TO PLAN A TRIP TO NIAGARA LET ME KNOW. WE'LL SET SOMETHING UP . BEING A NEW COMER TO THIS SITE . I APPRECIATE ANY INFO . TIGHT LINES

Thanks Last Cast. I believe I saw Pete & Reno fishing there on a recent Fish'n Canada show. That would be a great trip. I will Pm when it gets closer to the time of year, thanks so much for the invite.

HogHunter: Try Port Hope the last week in April for the run...fish from shore and enjoy a very strong and fun fight...I go every year so if I am going this year I will see what you are up to. It is one of my fav. fishing trips.

Well hoghunter a new season is about to begin in the province come January 1st and hopefully you get some good ice near you . Laketrout once the ice is on is readily available species to most anglers and truly at our mercy . The rigging can be as basic as just a gad ( slim stick) and hook,line and sinker with a minnow for bait or to the finest graphite ice jigging rod . White tubes have been mentioned as has the spoon the mighty williams wabler and there are a gazzillion others . If your on reasonably populated waters where the gray trout of the deep live you will catch them and quite often you don't neccessarily have to go real deep and it varies from lake to lake in the winter . I spend alot of time in winter chasing them and most often just jig as when they hit it's a bone jarring smash as they try and crush a spoon or jig and the battle is on .

Good luck to you and if your over my way your most welcome to tag along .

Thanks alot guys. I've learned more on here in 10 minutes, than some people learn in a lifetime. I really appreciate it. Where is over your way Trapper? It would be great to get out.

Almontefisher: I have wondered if the lake trout ever came into the Port Hope trib or even into the mouth of the creek..and by the sound of it they do?! I will definently get down there if so. It's too bad it is always so G.D. crowded, but I have had good luck there with salmon and the bows. Thanks for the info. What's the norm for the lakers when they come in there? Spoons? Minnows? Here is a rainbow I got this year in PH floating a woolybugger.

Thanks again everyone for your help...is the ice here yet?
