ling-cod
There not the same fish. There real name is "Burbot", but they are a freshwater cod. There real easy to catch in the winter, they can get pretty big(I've got'em up to 10lbs)and if you're in the right spot, you can catch a pile of em. There's no limit and no season. Hardly anybody really targets them. So any lake that has them, usually has a pile of them. They are a really different looking fish, kinda half catfish, half eel. Man do they taste great. Real easy to clean-hardly any bones and the flesh is firm and white.
Interesting - I do catch the ling cod while ice fishing. At least, it follows the description of half catfish / half eel...and people refer to them as ling. This is in Northern Ontario though - same fish? Please post if anyone has a pic.
I was going to ask how to clean them, but I imagine it is the same as catfish. So I did a search on the forum before posting (imagine that! Don't expect that everytime ) and found this link,

Favourite eating fish
Eye's are an easy pic (pun intended) but I always enjoy a shore lunch of fresh caught perch. A little flour a few spices, fried up in butter.
All time best though, has a be a nice fresh coho we bought right off the boat in Tofino. A sliced lemmon a little salt & pepper, wrapped in foil and cooked over a driftwood fire at Long Beach and eaten while watching the sun sink into the Pacific. That was probably 30 years ago but it seems like yesterday.

Oh Man!! Who started this, my mouth is just watering from any and all of the fish mentioned. . I would have to say that up to a couple off years ago I would not of even thought of eating catfish but after tasting some at the Catfest in Arnprior done up in Rocky Madison style and deep fried, I really can't say enough for it. I also love perch, walleye, salmon, halibut actually I can't think of any I don't like as long as they have been filetted properly,ie. no bones and either fried, poached or BBQ is fine with me. Now who is having fish for supper?????

I like the eyes, (which I can't catch), bass then pike, the smaller guys are tasty also but much harder to feed a table full of people with.
Dagnabit, I keep freaking hearing about how good ling is! Someone has gotta hook me up this winter so I can see what all this fuss is about.
Recepies once said ling is obtained would be appreciated also. Oh, having it already cleaned is a bonus also, seeing as it'd be a case of trial and error for me.
Must be the standard down the backbone...but do they actually have one? You see the dilemna.
