Yup it is starting to drive me nuts looking at it and not being able to use it just yet.

Sweet unit, no extras to buy :D

If their site did not answer all you questions let me know.

Hope to see you and Ratsotail on the ice somewhere this winter.

Slop: I have sold a few (thanks Iceman, yours was the first) and have 1 left in stock. No feedback from the purchasers yet though. The ice is a little wet.

Come on lads this is a glorified RTS from my research on it and there are better deals out there on flashers or even the TFT display using X67C icemachine . LCD's are manageable on ice applications but if anything go the TFT that lowrance uses if your in the market rather than this LCD display but for on ice I still would say a flasher whether marcum or vex .

Heck this unit has to be put into icefishing mode to keep the screen warm because it is LCD and if you want the picture thang then the X67C has TFT display which is digital too but none of this heater nonsense etc . Not to hurt a sale for you toobinator as I also know you sell flashers but I wouldn't touch this tech as of yet as the very few reviews available so far are not positive from my research for anyone to jump in with both feet especially as a first timer and the price isn't that sheet hot either compared to proven tech .

I've used them all whether it be vex ,lowrance or marcum but this one and can even get good responses from most LCD graphs within reason but personally this one I will hedge on for now .

Can give you all my personal observations comparing the others and my likes and dislikes and try to be fair and yes I'm pro Marcum most days but only mean a headsup unless you got bucks to test things or in such a position as I am occassionally to do these tests . Please don't gamble if it's your only option and just leave it to others first and I'm not in anyway insinuating or meaning to imply this may not work out .

TD, Slop, & Iceman,

This is a good thread so far in that I also have an interest in upgrading from my old Zercom flasher this year. I've used this Zercom for at last 15 years now and never had a problem with the LCD display until temps got down to -20C. It looks like the maker of the VPG has compensated for operation in cold weather with a heated display option.

One has to admit, that for the low price the VPG offers this year, it has to be seriously considered when looking at the cost of Vexilars, Marcum and Lowrance. The jury is still out on the endurance of the unit and I look forward to hearing from other users this year on pluses and minuses this year. I would hope that the unit was pro-staffed the last couple of years and made improvements to the unit before placing on the market for consumers. When you look at the staff that endorses the unit (some of the best names and innovators in icefishing today) my concerns are lessened.

So with the operation in low-temps problem solved I believe the market has been cracked wide open with an affordable unit for first-time anglers to try. The LCDs are silent running and run on very litle juice from the battery. That means many trips before recharging.

I'm sure the $500 price tags have scared a lot of anglers away in the past. $200 - $300 makes these units more palatable and removes some guilt for buying a unit that robs the kids college funds. This also means that for less than $500 you can buy an underwater camera and a flasher!

Tight Lines and thanks for adding to the discussion, but I still have this unit on my radar!

Not to throw some bitching in here but, Ratsotail says that there is a lot of ice-fishing big names supporting it. But we have seen some ice fishing reels made for +10deg temperature that had THE ICEFISHERMAN 's name attached.
Supposedly the second batch of reels also stiffen up as per a buddy.

Let's hope that the big names supporting it has at least tried them.

Just my 2 cents.
Not starting anything with my comment.

Hey Wallyboss,

I certainly haven't based my comments solely on endorsements...it's just part of the equation in the decision process for me. Bottom line....LCDs have worked well for me in the past and I wouldn't shy away from another....especially at that cost.

What reels were you referring to...I'm in the market for new combos too!? :D
