Has anyone used Compre Muskie Rods?

I think I'll go back to the store and give those Compres' another shake. Looks like I've got a decision to make. Thanks for all the help lads, its gonna be tough for me to pass on it after all the positive feedback from experienced muskie men like yourselves. I hope that I can return the favour sometime.

I think the first thing I'm gonna do is make a post in the classified forum see if any hawk-talkers have a spare kicking around.

There is no question that compres will do the job , some drive chevettes some drive cadillacs.
Having used high end rods I can say there is a difference, but how much that means to you is whats important.
Loomis are no doubt quality, as the lifetime warranty confirms.
Same as St . croix
As for reels, you can catch a bunch of dinks on a smaller reel , but will it last the test of time , prolly not, seen it lived it.
All you have to consider is what you like to feel as far as backbone in a rod with BIG fish , then you can choose.
For me I have acquired a liking to the feel of more expensive rods, but it doesn't mean they will catch bigger fish

just to throw my opinon , The best bang for the buck right now is the St Croix Triump rods the retail just over 100bux Much lighter than the Compre , and come with a 5 year warentee , They are a 1piece 7foot and avilable in a MH and H

I really like this thread, this is what fish-hawk is all about.

I also agree with what everyone has said here too, there is some great advice in this thread.

To me rods are much like cars. One costs $25k and another costs $50k. Both will get you to and from work, the grocery store, the beer store etc but is one better than the other? Probably. Does one cost more than the other because of the brand name? Maybe.

The point is they both do the same thing, as do rods.

I know a lot of guys who have the Compre rods and really like them and I bet I would too but I have a St.Croix that I really like a lot. It's a rod, just like the Shimano, it catches fish, just like the Shimano, I have never heard a fish in my boat say "oh crap, it's not a Shimano, please don't take my picture because I don't want anyone to know I was caught on a rod that wasn't a (INSERT BRAND NAME HERE)

I think was is really important to get out of this thread is not what people have recommended but the fact that no one has told you anything negative about the Compre rods. When I look for advice on a product it is the negatives about that product that are most important, ei it breaks easy or is not strong enough to set the hook on fish with boney mouths etc.

About the same price as Compres and comparable
in quality.

if casting is your main preferencce then match the rod to your boat - by this I mean if you have high sides you may want to think about an 8'! figure 8'ing with a 6' is tough on the knees whereas an 8' is just a dip. Personally I love the StCroix series and after a recent break and swift replacement, I'm StCroix all the way.

I have 2 of these that I use for trolling. So far I really like them too.

But for casting? I'm not a big guy so I find them too stiff to cast with, please fill me in, how the heck do you cast with these?

i have lost the monster of my life(55+) with this cheap and poor rods,on a bk lures,because the rod simply broke! so dont buy this crap.when you fishing musky you have 0% margin of error,so dont be cheap.

the rod broke right in the rod holder,and no i will not put my drag off a bit,i always put my drag like this ,i need my 2 hands to released the line,and i use powerpro 65 lb, so i dont think its normal.this is the fish i have caught only a hours right after this sad story,and no the rods will not be broken this time
