Well the Chevy is A-OK...
Pulled the case off and discovered the sound I could hear yesterday was the gear knicking against the case where it was dented in. Very minor wear on the outer tip of the gear, but it is fine. Replace the case, fill plug, and gear oil. Everything felt and sounded alright on the test drive..
Things definitely could have been a lot more expensive..
I would have much rather spent my day fishing in the snow rather than lying under the back of a truck..
Note to self: Do not use try as an ice breaker.

I'll have the hut and the heater ready to go!!
Matt I am screwed for two weekends.. Not only are all my friends ruining my summer with stags and weddings, well they decided to start wrecking my winters also...lol.. Stag this weekend, wedding next weekend. Both back in Belleville.... I won't be as bitter if there is ice on Quinte, but I'm not hoping on anything....muskymatt wrote: Great news Luke ...glad to hear there was no major damage,,,you in this weekend ????? I thought finding your own lakes in search of trout is what makes that type of fishing so exiting and challenging
Imagine arriving at a lake for a day and having it all to yourself
...That's the way I see it..
Team Loyer, pick yourself up a backroads map book of Eastern Ontario and start from there...You will be amazed how much info they can give ya..Stocking lists will help ya out too

I started with one lake I found by going and looking about 5 yrs ago, from there I talked to a few people on the lakes and learned of others.
No locations were from a board , I've posted about some of the fish I have caught, but what is not seen is the anticipation of getting there , the driving around with a map and a gps !!!!
3hr - 4 hr drives in beautiful country without even dipping a rod .
It's not all about the lake , the fish , catching......It's a day thing ...with buddies ...not sure of the outcome ......and when you do succeed ,,,it's a thrill across the board.
Go be adventurous , hike a little and look and learn , you'ld be amazed how much fun you can have and what you learn.
And when you catch fish , it'll feel great.

Sweet
Awesome post Matt and great pics. Nice to know the ice is finally on. Great looking fish and I bet they tasted even better. My buddy Chris and I did just that this summer, took the back country book, hit the road with canoe on top and hoped for the best. Never caught a darn thing but found a gorgeous lake that I wouldn't have otherwise ever seen. Hope to try that spot again as there were a few others around so I'm sure people do have success there. Its finding out what works in different waters, different times of day, different seasons etc. We did unfortunately hear about our lateness on our return to town from our better halfs. We just couldn't seem to pry ourselves away from the water. I guess our excuse of "But honey, you can't wear a watch on the water, it may get wet" didn't work.

I also agree with going out to find a lake because me and my buddy did that this year as well..It is very fun I will agree but it is also fun fishing lakes you know how to get to and know what is in them. We drove for 3 hrs walked for 2 and finally found the lake we were looking for but it was getting dark so we went home. Next weekend we went back and left really early so we could fish it and when we got there again we fished for 6 hrs not catching anything or knowing what is in it. When you are in Lanark County you have about 1000 lakes in a small area which sometimes do not have names or any stocking reports. The only way to know about them is from other people so sometimes guys it is o.k. to share some info. I do know what most of you are saying but if you follow catch and release rules and other things to preserve the fishery it will not go bottom up. It is o.k. to mention lake names ( maybe not the honey hole) every now and then. It is the only way my father would have known about some of the lakes by our cottage and what was in them.
But alas it all comes down to this...." To each his own" if you want to leave it a secret then guess what you leave it as a secret...your choice.
