East Lake, West Lake
What a great site! I've been looking for reports about the Bass and Walleye fishing in East Lake and West Lake in Prince Edward County. Does anyone have any recent experience and/or tips about fishing those waters?

West lake
Hi Lawrence,
I have had a trailer, (until last year) on west lake for the past decade. West lake is relatively shallow with deep spots down to 25' and for the most part very weedy. Get a topo of the lake. They have a map in the bait shop located in Wellington harbor.
The Bass fishing on this lake (large mouth) has always been productive. Not too many monsters, but plenty of bass action can be had. There's lily pads scattered around the lake, but you will find most of them along the South shore line and in the South section of the lake. Fishing in the weeds also produces a good number of bass (get the odd pike to boot).
The walleye fishery seems to have picked up in recent years (didn't get out last summer though - moved to Weller's bay). The year before last was my most productive. I had most of my success trolling along the weed lines adjacent to deeper water in the north section of the lake . There is a small Isl. in the eastern part of the north section of west lake (----> thats a mouthful!). It was in this area that I enjoyed most of my success for walleye - nothing big but good action/pan size.
I have heard of people catching the odd muskie later in the year, but I never have - nor have I targeted them.
As for bait/lures - for the walleye I had lots of success with spinners and worms/leech's as well as trolling with CC Shads. Mid summer - there is boat loads of pan fish, great place for kids, almost non stop for blue gills perch etc. Bring lots of worms.
Hope this helps & good luck

West Lake,
I have fished West Lake for years our local club usually has a tournamnet over their I generally fish the Mouth of the Bloomfield creek and if you are handy with a flipping stick the Cane and Pencils around the Klinestubers launch can produce some decent fish.
East Lake
Haven't fished it in a couple of years but again the pencils and cane around the entrance to the River at the south can produce run a spinner bait or senkos through the thin stuff and get right into it with your flipping stick around the thick stuff also the lake has a fair bit of bank to fish if the water is high enough.
If you need more info pm me with specifics.

Thanks for the responses about East Lake, especially. I've been going on holiday there for a long time (over 50 years, I kid you not!), skipped a couple of years, and when I went back, the fishing had changed. The old techniques, baits, spots- weren't producing. I suppose the zebra mussels improved water clarity, fish got wary... But even the fish size was smaller. What happened?

EAST LAKE WEST LAKE
Well, I'll be heading that way come September
Love the area, the bass action, and just a bunch of memories from past experiences. Buddy of mine is retiring this year, so we may head up later in the fall to try our luck in Picton Bay and Hay Bay. We've been inspired by the pics and reports from this fall!!
