CO officer at BOQ.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

It's always good to see them patroling, keepin' people honest. Does anyone ever see CO's on the Ottawa? For whatever reason I don't come across them very often.

I've only seen one in my life and of course, my luck being what it is, I was the only one fishing for miles. Man did he give me the once over, only x10.

Once I got the thumbs up. I mentioned to him he might want to come by on a weekend when many " ethnic" fishermen came. That most likely...infact, I'm sure, have no licenses, no regard for species in season or slot sizes.

He told me he does regularly and doesn't see anything of the sort. That's when I knew immediately he was full of it because it's one of my fav. spots.

I know they're understaffed. It's tough but c'mon check out the area's that are known problems.

I've seen many CO's but always where I would expect them to be: BOQ, Ottawa River (constance bay) and Calabogie.

I'd rather see them them in the less predictable and less popular areas for them to be more useful.

Also, I'm always "pulled over" for inspection even though I'm wearing a visble life jacket... just to see if I've got an anchor, bailer, blah, blah on a crystal clear day......

They should check the back lakes because that's where people are really going to be in trouble if there's a problem because noone's around...

I have seen the CO twice in the past 7 years...Once was up on Mosque lake and he wanted to make sure we were not catching more lakers than allowed...I laughed really hard at him and reminded him what Lake we were fishing and that if you catch 2 in one day you are doing something very right...He laughed and agreed and continued on. ( this lake is a little more remote than most)...The second time was two years ago fishing under a bridge on the clyde near Lanark...suprised the crap out of me when all of a sudden two Co's come walking under the bridge and ask me how Im doing...Didn't even hear them come down the shoreline. Needless to say they were very nice and asked if the fishing was good. I asked one of them if carp were in this river cause I caught one earlier(about 2lbs) and they said that there are a few...but not to often are they caught. Now anyone will know this is way off the beaten path for these guys..so they do travel into the unknown every now and again.

i see them all the time when were alone fishing in season for fish we are licenced to keep but i KNOW for a FACT that in late spring to late summer there is an old docking facility that has been abandoned next to my fav public launch and it is a great spot for shore fishing ANY given day from 6 am to midnight there is upwards of 50 ppl mosty americans and forigners with buckets and buckets of everything from perch to bass (yes even in early spring) to carp and catfish to even the occasional walleye and then get this 1 one time A FRECKIN MUSKI!!!! there not ever have i seen a CO and i know most of these ppl are not licenced and are not keeping regs in mind... oh ya its also not uncommon for them to decide they no longer want fish and toss them on the gravel to die (ie mudpuppies) and fingersized perch there too lazy to unhook..... GRRR!! they also break off MASSIVE riggs frequently cuz they use old unfit tackle and dump live biat as well as throw every possible kind of garbage on the rocks and in the water (from dipers to food wrappers) oh ya and y might u ask are they throwing this on the rocks? BECAUSE THATS WHERE THEY TRHEW THE GARBAGE CAN!!! now really y throw a garbage can in the river? ive even called the mnr to come take a look but this will never happen.... :(

ok rant is over i fell better
sorry guys

Was out at Huffs as well yesterday and CO stopped by as well. I had to run back to my truck as my licence was in my floatsuit that I wasnt wearing. Nice guy, cuz he could have given me a ticket on the spot.
Bite wasnt great but we did manage to land a couple of eaters, and I had a BOQ pig on and came off about 3 feet from the hole. I nearly cried.
The CO did say that yesterday was slower that the past few days. Did manage to pick up a suspended herring. A first for me.

I have been checked by them a number of times in Constance Bay
I don't care if they check me everyday
I have a licence, I follow the rules
I have nothing to hide
I personally like to see them out and about
and when they are on hardwater it seems they will sit and chat abit too!
For some reason they never like drinking my beer though :P

Bowboy3

Exact same thing happenned to me on Saturdat at Sherman's Point.

I had my wallet in my pants, which I took off before slipping in my floater suit  . Same as you, I had to go all the way to the car to get it after he confirmed by phone with the office that I had purchased one. Today is tolerance zero he said. By the time I came back, he was gone doing his rounds. I saw him again 3 hours later. He goes "I said I was going to give you a ticket but I'll give you a break." Pfew!!! Close one. I also always enjoy talking with them.

I am a guy that is absolutely anal about rules and regs. I always ask people I fish with if they have their liscence. What a feeling when I realised I did not have it on me

By the way, Friday was great fishing. A 7 lbs, a 10.5 lbs and tons of jumbo perch. Saturday was dead. No walleye and a few small perch.

A couple of weeks ago while fishing Wildwood Lake in southern Ontario during a cold windy day I looked up to see 2 CO's on the dam. There was about 20 of us fishing. The only one they checked for a lience was the guy who went to the dam for a leak. Too cold or tough of a climb over the rocks to check the rest of us? I waved to them & they waved back then left.

Best Wishes: Rick
