Lowrance 334 C

I am planning on going to the show this weekend in Ottawa, and was wondering if this would be a good chance to buy a lowrance 334 C fishfinder/gps?
Also does anyone already have one of these units and what do you think of them?

I have the Lowrance 334C-IGPS.

I bought it just after it was released in early 2006.
Since it was new to the Lowrance line, the 'bugs' had not been worked out of the unit, it was one of their first units with internal GPS puck. Some have had problems with the earlier versions, especially those that did not have the most up to date software update. With saying that, I did have a problem with the unit at the end of the season. I returned it to Lowrance and they gave me a brand new one, because mine was one of the originals, and was missing like 2 or 3 software updates. As far as I know, the problems with the unit have been worked out with the new software updates. I did not really have any problems with it throughout last season, it worked fine for me. It just died on the very last trip of my season. Can't tell you how the new unit is, as my boat is in storage.

Mine was fine for me, even w/out the software updates, but the newer versions should already have them in place.

Grover, I have that unit, I bought it in December and used it briefly on Quinte in Jan. It seems to be a very nice unit. You can actually see the fish in real time and the colour makes a huge difference. I only hooked it up temperarily for that trip so I am looking forward to getting out in the spring to give it a good go. I still have to pick up the software needed. But definitely see Eye-tracker at the show and he will show you what you need to know.

Picked up the 334C at the show last night.

Got it for $745 taxes in, saved approximatly $200, now that's worth the price of admission.

Now to hunt for a good deal on the maps.

Hi Grover, I purchased the same unit last spring and am totally satisfied with it. The switch from my old grey scale to colour is unbelievable and the addition of the Navionics card to th gps is well worth the added expense if you do much boating on the Great Lakes.

I bought the 332 last summer which is basically same thing with external puck and so far its been great.
also purchased the navionics eastern great lakes chip too.It has tons of charts for many different lakes.
It even has Rideau and Ottawa.

I was going to get the 334 but new it would be in my boat any way was worried about reception with 334C.
Would be nice to be able to use it else where tho.

Well I am now the proud owner. Thanks for all the tips. Now i need to read the book and try and figure it all out. I have been told it is easy to use. All it will take is time on the water and fingers on the buttons.

Stop by Lowrances website and download a 334 emulator and you can play with it on your computer and learn it that way. You can even get a Navionics reader and put your cards in it and view them on your computer or in your emulator.

Navionics Reader??? I know you can't plug them in direct as they will erase but what is this reader????

Navionics makes a reader for their cards. I don't remember the actual name, but you can find out more info about it at there webpage. Also any Navionics dealer (Paddletales for example) could get you this accessory.

Anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't grab my battery out of the garage and hook this unit up in my basement and start playing with it?

I have been playing with the simulator I downloaded from their site but it is not the best for using the GPS and getting to know it thru trial end error.

Make sure you run the positve through an inline fuse and you should be fine.
