I have been informed that the navionics maps don't cover the Madawaska
So what do you Mad fisher's use for a GPS map for this body of water?
I've had great pleasure in trolling the Mad with some fish-hawkers but would really like to go out and cast some of the areas I spotted on my trips out there and since I am a new proud owner of a GPS sonar I would like to actual end up using it to try and find some (toothy critters) fish.
The Freedom map of Southern Ontario which covers an area bounded by Thunder Bay down the western great Lakes not including Michigan, along the Lakes Erie and Ontario out the St. Lawrence to Quebec Border up the Ottawa to just don't remember where and back across to Thunder Bay. It has all the roads, towns Points of Interest and also ALL the lakes in this area. It does not have a depth graph for the lakes and just with your touring the lakes and finding weed beds you can create your own Master copy of YOUR fishing day. I just have to say it that too many fishermen go out on the water and the first thing they do is want to get up and get a rod in their hand. Please take the time to study structure and FIND your new HOTSPOTS. These GPS/SONAR units are just invaluable. The Fish should FEAR them not the Loomis rods.
Plowjock I think the freedom map that you mean is the one for Eastern Canada. It's got from Manitoba to the Maritimes on it. Including Northern Ontario and Northern Quebec. I bought that one and it's a good one. Mr.J you fish the Rideau right?? the navionics great lakes east has it in it with depths. i bought that one also.
I would suggest that your time would be better spent fishing on the Mad... It's not that big that you need a GPS. Just spend a few days on it and you will have it covered...
I know it well... Trust me
Save your GPS for the Ottawa or somewhere big where you actually have to worry about A)hitting something and B) Getting back home. There are a couple of humps out on the Ottawa that hold fish like cord wood. I would never find them again without my GPS. With the new units I can get to it right on the money every time.
I occasionally use mine to mark a trolling run on the Mad but I don't really care if the screen says I am on shore with the built in map. My boat is wet...
