last ice at petrie

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

last ice at petrie

Post by Fish'n Buddy »

Sad to see the hardwater season comin to an end, especially because my boat is 5 hrs away and it's trailor isin't road worthy enough to make the trip to Ottawa :(
So you guys figure we can still probably fish petrie till the end of March though eh? Where are the safest, best spots to go? I usually have lots of luck in pickeral bay late in the season but i'm open for suggestions
(JOCO,JACKEL where did you guys plan on going this weekend?) Hope to see you out there

You read my mind! I love spring ice fishing.

I've been wondering if I could squeeze one more outing this weekend. I figure Pietrie is the safest place but I haven't been there at all this year. I'll keep you posted if I find out before you do.

Petrie

Post by Seaweed »

I was on the ice last night...in the fog. Got skunked but.... :?

Lots of water and slush but the ice seems plenty good. A bit errie walking on some dark spots and not much snow so you can see through the clear ice but with the cooler temps today and tomorrow I would say that we still have good ice for a couple of weeks.

I know I will be out again a few times for sure. Anyone looking to hook up I am planning on Sunday on Walleye Bay.... straight out from the road.

Petrie ice is good right now, crappie bay (near parking lot) has about 8-9" and further out it has about 10-11".. Only some areas have water/slush, just look around for burried wholes not to fall in them..hard to see

Seaweed, I might come fish a bit with ya sunday we will see... Where were you last night? Didn't see u :( Let me know how the ice is at walleyebay

Last Ice Petrie

Post by Seaweed »

Well hit the ice at Petrie this morning. Very cold windy morning but it warmed towards noon hour but I called it a day then.

Very glad to have a my portable hut. It was so windy that my portable was almost moving with me sitting in it. I was checking out Tip-ups Marcum camera and my eyes were busy watching it and my Marcum LX-5.

Here is a shot of what could be my last outing on the ice this year.... all this Marcum technology and I still got skunked by the way.... and when I checked with the rest of the gang no one was braggin about any fish.

Image

With the warm temps this week we will be hard pressed to find safe ice... too bad because those walleye still haven't put on the feedbag for spawning... we will probably miss some good fishing this year.

Seaweed,

Nice to see you out there. E. Canada said we were getting gusts of 64 km per hour today. Joco and I ended up leaving after you and Nightroller left.

Anyway, it was a good but short season this year and it was nice seeing a lot of new and old faces on the ice. :) SPINNER!!! Ya right

That's it for me until the speks at the end of April.
