Long Island locks on the Rideau

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Long Island locks on the Rideau

Post by GuinnessGuy »

HI All,

I'm hoping to go out crappie fishing on the weekend. Does anyone know if the ice is out at the Long Island Locks? Is there another good spot I can hit (25 minutes driving from downtown Ottawa, any direction)?

I checked Petrie today and that's out of the question...

Thanks

Hmmm....I'm guessing you'd be better off waiting till at least Easter before fishing for slabs. Give the water in the back bays a little time to warm up a tad.

Hi BeaArthur,

Work had me in the area earlier this week and the ice is starting to melt at the end of the locks, that was on Monday.

Oh yeah loved you in "Golden Girls"

just to clear things up... I'm a dude. This is my gaming nickname... You may see me online if you play First-person shooters.

Might try wetting a line at long island locks anyway, if I can get close to the water.

Would Billings Bridge be any good?

Cheers!

Give Shiner Lake a go!

Its only an hour and a bit west near Calabogie. No crappie but great troutin'.

I wouldn't bother with Billings Bridge. The water is running high and cold, all you would be doing is washing your lures. I'd hold off on Billings Bridge until Pike and walleye season opens.
