Opening weedend in Quinte.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

As per the winning weights this year it seems like the bigger walleyes were biting more than last year. But how was the fishing ????

Well, from what I saw it was some pretty tough fishing. Almost every boat we talked to were skunked. The fact that there where so many big fished weighed in this year so the cows were still in the Bay. I believe the winner came out of Haybay. Obviously just finished spawning.

Long story short we ended up getting 7 on the weekend. All small males - 15" or so - very very tasty! I found a spot in the Nappanee river where there was a fair amount of fish holding, and continuously worked them. We picked all the fish up trolling and 5 of the 7 were taken on a Medium, perch color Big O.

I thought I had the derby won yesterday late morning. "Fish - on"! Bulldogging down, won't come up - nice heavy fish.....Sheepshead :(

I can only relate the feeling to that of pulling up a Ling when fishing walleye through the ice.

I bet the fishing will pick up down there in the next couple of weeks!

I can't believe how tough it was fishing in the B of Q and I will post some pictures of the time we spent there this weekend if I remember to bring my camera in to work to get them posted since I only have a computer here at work. I must say it was an absolutely gorgeous weekend, sunny, a little cool and a little windy but no rain! I fished with Tenline and BTS fished by himself and Brian did managed to pull in a couple of hogs a little over the seven pound range. The three of us all caught something in the range of 2lbs to the 7lbs that Brian caught. I did have a nice pike hooked until it saw the boat and then decided it had enough of that and shook the hook. We fished in Hungry Bay and tried our luck up in Telegraph Narrows were ther seemed to be a large number of boat out in that area trying their luck. We didn't really see any of those big walleye being caught but I had a blast just the same. The Demo Boat ran great and except for nicking the prop in the shallow docking spot it was a great weekend! It was an absolutely great time and I would like to thank Brian and Tenline for their great commaraderie! Will definetely get out there again to give it a shot!!!!!

The exact reason why I'll never do "derbies"....

It makes it impossible to control...

Noone finds it odd that the winner also finished in the Top 10 2 more times?

They may have been caught for sure....and probably were...but it casts a huge doubt in many eyes....when people are struggling to catch "a" fish...and someone gets three over 10 pounds...

Not only was the fishing tough but we launched from the south shore of Hay Bay and getting off the bay Saturday evening in a 2 foot chop was no joy. Oh well, they say pride of ownership comes with the first scratch.

Hit the Napanee river on Sunday and while we were marking fish it was pretty slow there as well. I did land my first 'eye of the year although it was more of an 'eyelet at about 10" in length.

The official line for the 2007 season is "the boat has been wetted and we landed fish." 8)

Back to RJ..........if you have a long memory, you may recall that the guy who finished EVERY year in the top ten, generally the top three, got caught with a caged pre-season fish. Somebody had seen the cage and it got staked out. When buddy dropped by under cover of darkness to retrieve the HAWG, he got a wee surprise. IIRC that was about 1990ish???

Hey Wallyboss,

I believe your info is out of date :) try this link:

http://quinte.com/walleye/2007winners.html

I was staying at Pickerel Park, and saw the weight-in station listing the first place walleye as being 13.54lbs, so I think the above link is accurate.

Hay Bay was producing tons of eaters (2-5'ish) I don't think any of the winning walleyes came from Hay Bay though...
