Wacky on White Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Wacky on White Lake

Post by 14fishing »

We just returned from our annual week on White Lake. As you know the weather last week was crazy but we still managed a few good days. A special thanks to Boozer and Scum Frog for extra info about the lake.
A few things seemed different this year - 1, the water level seemed about a foot lower than last year and 2, a lot more pressure on the lake. I'm not sure, but that may be contributing to the issues mentioned in posts a few weeks ago.
My wife decided to join us in the boat this year and I'm glad she did. I let her experiment with Senkos wacky style, which we never tried before. After she started to outfish me, I was convinced that wacky was the way to go. By the end of the week, we were all fishing wacky worms. Our best bass was 5lbs on a Frenzy top-water. We also had a few 3 & 4 pounders, but 95% of our fish was the 1-2 lb lake norm.
I tried the new gobbee minows from BassPro. They worked great on big perch, bass and pike, but the pike kept biting me off. They immitate the baby cats in the lake and everything seemed to hit them. If you fish them, use a leader.
If anyone knows of private cabins for rent on the lake, I would appreciate some contact info. I stay at Bayview now, but we have their smallest cabin. My wife's only rule is that is has a shower in the cabin (no shower houses).

I have been fishing White Lake and I have my boat at White Lake Marina this year and I find the fishing to be pretty much the same as always; good number fish, big one are harder to catch but not impossible. I know a lot of people are saying that the big bass harder to find and yes to a certain extent that's true but I think that its all relative to many factors and not neccesarily fishing pressure from people fishing this lake.

Take a close look at the people fishing that lake and most of them are pretty much weekend anglers. I have seen a few bass boats out there that would normally imply more hard core basser's and more than likely more experienced than the average weekend guy, but really I have found (for me anyway, no issues catching good size bass on that lake.)

I was supposed to try Senko's this weekend but my wife was there and it turned to be more of a pleasure cruise than anything else.

PS: I'm sure you know about Cedar Cove, T-Bell resort and so on there's quite a few places on that lake that have rentals...usualy booked at this time but you never know, with this weather people might have bailed out on their reservations.

I could be wrong here but i beleive that the first link is a different White Lake then the one in Arnprior....not 100% sure. I did notice a few cottages in that area, the Godffrey area is that the same as the White Lake in the Arnprior area lake.

I was under the impression that you had originaly mentioned White Lake in Arnprior, if I'm wrong oh well. I also think there one resort in Pckerel Bay?? not 100% sure.

Take care

BBD: You have the right White Lake...Cedar Cove Resort is just outside Pickrel Bay.

Yes, there is also a resort in Pickerel Bay... Much quieter than the other resorts on the lake. Or so I've found anyway...
They have 9 or 10 Cottages they rent... anywhere from 1 to 4 bedrooms.
I'm not sure whether or not the cottages have showers though...

Sorry if I screwed up there - both sets of cottages are in eastern Ontario and I assumed both were on "THE" White Lake being discussed. If there are two White Lakes out here, I do apologize.........

Like I said, I have not been to either of those spots, just trying to help out one of our American friends.............

Thanks for all of the info. The White Lake I'm referring to is near Arnprior. Pickeral Bay only has a shower house. The Cedar Cove cabins look very nice, but they are not right on the lake. That is one advantage that Bayview has. Our cabin is 15' from our boat.
I guess I'll have to wait until someone cancels until I can move into a bigger cabin.
Thanks again.

Hey 14fishing,

I own a cottage on White Lake, and I think I might start renting it out, starting '08. It's a 3 bedroom with toilet and shower, all furnished. It's boat access only. I'd include a 14ftr with a 9.9 on it. Shoot me a pm next year if your still looking.
