New record smallie
12lbs????
I know photographs of fish can often be deceptive, but the fish does not look like a 12lb smallmouth. It's definitely one helluva smallmouth, and I have no idea what a 12lb smallie is suppose to look like, but the measurements being qouted are suggesting that the fish has a girth larger than its length! The photo doesn't support the measurements being qouted. The two other photos of record smallies appear larger than the one supposedly 2+lbs bigger? Difficult to believe, and considering what the guy did with the fish, impossible to know for sure.
A couple of years ago, I posted on this board that I thought it was not a good idea in keeping large fish for the dinner table. I was somewhat lambasted by some, but after reading the story I can't help but express the same opinion as I did years ago. You would think that if the Provincial Government was serious about conservation, they would institute some type of slot limit for all or at least most species of fish here in Ontario.

Yeah, nice fish but no monster. About the reporters, it is like they say in the tabloid business, don't ask too many questions and spoil a good story. Maybe this is a ploy to get more people up that way, drop a few dollars while searching for the Loch Madawaska monster fish? I don't think this will start a stampede of FHers, but I will admit to thinking more about Arnprior as a destination; human nature rules.

Record Smallie?
12?!!??. Thats probably the number of "Labatt's 50" he had injested on his little fishing trip before he dragged himself and his "dinner"back home to his trailer.
That fish doesn't weigh an ounce over 5lbs. I'm dissapointed in the media for even wasting the paper that the story was printed on. They should have gathered more facts first.
The funny thing here is that there are going to be a ton of "uninformed" people that buy into this. I bet you there will be a bunch of people up there this weekend, beating that river to a froth! Chasing the dream

I was being sarcastic Almonte, There is no dream! It was a 5lbs bass. Big Deal, There's tons of them around. The humorous thing I was trying to get at here is that there will be crowds of people there, and they really will believe that they have a shot at a 12 lbs Bass. Now that's funny!
