Visiting Ottawa for first time-help needed

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Go west on 17 to the towns of Galetta and Arnprior. The Mississippi and the Madawaska rivers join the Ottawa there.
Good luck.

Hey Legend, the walleye fishing from shore might be tough at this time of year, the closest bait shop to you is bits and baits in Stittsville and yes walleye is open. You could try at the end of the locks downtown behind the chateau laurier and parliment hill although parking nearby will be a hassle and involve some walking, through ares that are loaded with bums and wierdos, so bring a cattle prod or a bull whip with you

from the map above the places to try which have shore fishing.

1) Dick bell park... Ottawa River -- very close - about 5-10 minutes from your hotel ... shore fish along the breakwater near the lighthouse. I've got pike and perch. I haven't caught walleye but I've seen walleye caught there.
Google says the drive is 7 minutes -> http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=Dick+ ... &z=14&om=1

2) Black Rapids - Rideau River.
- good walleye spot. The river is lowered for winter mode but should still have enough. I've also caught perch, smallmouth and muskie there. slightly longer drive, maybe 20 minutes from your hotel.

funny story - couple weeks ago, i was fishing the rideau from shore (downtown) and some kid drives up to me on his bike, and asks if I caught anything... I say no. He says "I got a 7 lb walleye last week: ... "Where ?" ... "Blacks Rapids" and he tears off... Kid must have been 10 or so... born fisherman, complete with bragging skills :)

good luck in ottawa for the tournament and any fishing you get to.

If you need bait theres Voyageur Depot on McArthur in Vanier. They always have minnows.

Check this map.

Good spot would be off Riddell Drive and 6th Line Road (next to river). Easy to get too from where you'll be (my neck of the woods).

Good luck!
