This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

running and gunning!!or not moving at all!!???

Post by Fishing 24/7 »

hi ALL!! :D

i was thinking last week end we tried the old running and gunnning technique and i loved it!!

even if its lots of hard work ( walking with all the equipement) (making the holes) exttt!

it is a verry effective way of ice fishing cause you cover lots of ground!!

i used to always do the old 5 tip ups in a row and waitting game!

still good but when it dies down its takes a long time befor they get active again!!

what type of ice fisherman are you!!!!

running ang gunning or waitting game?????? 8)

Getting a good map of the body of water your fishing can help single out dead water spots and show you structure the fish might be relating to. I will pick out a spot and go from there ...punch out the area and grab the vex to see what kind of bottom I am ontop of and of there is any fish. I will usually drop a line down for the curious cruiser for a minute or two. If I don't mark fish, off to the next hole....spot, plain and simple.

You tip-up fisherman are kind of limited to the whole running and gunnning aspect of the sport as the amount of effort it takes ya's to set-up, I am already onto fish 8) ...
Don't leave fish to find fish... I will cover an entire lake if me legs are up to it...then again, I only use one rod while fishing so it makes it a lot easier.

Run and Gun...you will catch more fish

IT sher was fun last weekend after 300 holes . a jiffy rope around the neck..3 heart attack..for walking 4 miles on the ice in deap snow..pulling 125pound off stuff.

what a great outhing....

joking.

its was great ...5 tip up down the holes...make other s holes exchange those tip up off holes etc..and jig whit the jiging rod and keep repeate the process.

the best thing is to hunt them.

do the homework....look around for structure.

or chanel or anything .points weed edge etc.

gunning is the way to go..until you got a good spot.then if the bote stop..go look for them.

Fishing 24/7,

If you enjoyed the thrill of running and gunning and trying new water I'd suggest leaving the tip ups at home and enjoy the fun of using spinning equipment. You'll cut less holes, but cover more water and very likely catch more fish!

Tip up fishing has always seemed like such a hassle to me...carrying minnow buckets around, re-baiting, finding the right depth, etc.... Lots of wasted time in my eyes. If there is an aggressive fish around...and you are after Pike most of the time... I'd switch to spinning tackle and jigging.

You've got the energy...just put it to good and efficient use  .

tight lines,

Hey 24/7
One very usefull tool I just picked up last year was a hand held Gps. I downloaded my fav water bodies on it so now when we venture out on to the ice it has all the structure and depths right before your eyes, less work out on the Jiffy or in my case my arms. plus if you find that magic honey hole mark it as a way point and your set for life. Also one of my buds has a aqau view which realy helps for marking under water structure and fish.

Toys toys toys

Run and gun baby! I cannot for the life of me fish a hole for more then 15 minutes without a fish. I'll usually punch out a piece of structure pretty good and then hole hop. Andrew can vouch for me. Me him and Oliver are pretty good at picking spots apart.

i dont understand the part were your saying spinning equipement are you talking about the lure to use ??

thanx for all the GREAT tips guys!!

we sure do learn alot here!

B.A just purchased a under water cam we will finnaly see our fav. hot spot!!

i predict fish stack on on top of each other! :) wallmart style!!

yeah i know i should be jigging alot more!! but i fine that even tho i use hand made unbalenced black line 2x4 tip ups

the ratio between me joco / bass addcit/ fish finder all my fishing partners!

are about the same! it depends more on were your at and what they want!

other than that man its just a minnow in the water! i dont sit around drinking beer all day and let my hole freeze up

i work hard to move them as often as i can! and switch spots as much as i can when the bite goes off!!

jigging hard is my next big step!

Fishing with this guy is too fun... Drilling 30+ holes a day to find fish is simply too fun. Run and gun all the way, no more than 5 minutes spent fishing a hole and next to the other one. Mobility is the key!!

Missing the hole hoppin' weather Eric?  How do you like the new rods?
