Ottawa River Water Levels

Post by Priorguy »

Guy's you might want to bookmark this for future reference. This shows the water levels on the Ottawa River and are constantly updated. It also contains data on the tributaries that feed into the river.

The data is posted by the Ottawa River Regulating Committee and they have new links to external data which you might find interesting.

Why would anyone need to know in advance the water levels of the Ottawa river? And that site isn't very accurate or current anyway...

hi bass addict.

still not sher about flood.

it depend how fast it melt....and lets not forget all the rain we had in first week on jan..we lost like 2 to 3 feetoff snow then plus one more shot off rain and lost mabe another foot.

imagine if we did not had that rain to mel thins in fell down as snow..that would be.4 feet more plus rain/sno..mabe 2 more feet..so mabe onother 5 feet over what we have now.. .

if we compare to last year...at this date..we had a lot leas snow on the ground.

time will tell.

but i am pretty sher it will be higher then last year but to talk about flood........will see.lets hope not for people close to shore.

Hey Mongolian

Its always a good idea to know the water levels if you live on the water. It could be you don't so you may not need to know this. I use it to know when to put out dock, when to take in dock when to raise dock and when to lower dock... In the winter as the water levels rise the ice drops.. the shorelines breakaway more often which can make it tought to remove shacks.

Water levels also play a very important role for fish feed. The more water the more churm and so on which means less bites. Less water means more bites.

As for accurate I would beg to differ on that point.

Well, actually, Priorguy, I used to live on the shore of the Ottawa, in Dunrobin up until this fall. I know that website and used to find it interesting until I determined it was inaccurate. For example, the site would say the water had risen 8 inches and then I would go see the water level myself and it would actually have decreased. Numerous times, I checked, using reference markers and the site was almost always wrong. Yes, its a river with dams controlling the flow but the site is almost always wrong. Or it was up until the fall.

And as for what you say about

Or it was up until the fall. I'd read whats on the site, go look and it'd be way off!

And as for what you say about knowing what to do with the dock :D , just go look at the water level! Its usually pretty consistent on the Ottawa with the spring water levels and when's good to put in the dock. Its not that much different from year to year.

And why is it good to read the water levels on the computer if you live on the water. If you live on the water, you can see right away if the water is up or down and if you live there you'll know if its an unusual level for that time of year. If you live there, you don't need a computer for that.
