First Bass report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

First Bass report

Post by Alumacraft »

Fished Lake Erie yesterday just out of Buffalo for the trophy season smallies. I struggled for a couple of hours then I found some fish that were willing too eat. In 3 hours I managed to land about 20 or so. The smallest was about 15.5" and the largest was 20" the 20" was 4.9lbs on the dig. scale.

The first 2 shots are the big fish of the day

This one was 4.6lbs

This one was 4.3 lbs and the belly looks like it is going too explode

All the fish were puking up bait as I brought them in.The area I was in was loaded with bait but they still ate my tube offering
This my first season of going to the US for the smallies early season hopfully I'll find a 6+lber before the move to their summer locations.

Thanks Rob

Nice. Real footballs should look so good..... :)

Is Erie part of the new C&R bass season in N.Y. or have Erie bass always been open at this time of year?

Erie has always been open on the 1st Sat. in May, but is now included in the year round open season.

Dec. 1st through the Fri. preceding the first Sat. in May. C&R only. Artifical lures only.

1st Sat. in May through the 3rd Sat. in June one (1) fish limit 20" min. length

3rd Sat. in June through Nov. 30th 5 fish limit 12" min. length

Hey Alumacraft I was there yesterday too. What boat were you in? I was there in a red Triton that you would have been able to see for a mile. We found the fishing slow yesterday too but Monday was amazing. My big fish for the trip was a 5lb 8oz hawg that was 22 inches. I'll post a pic after. This is my second time there and I think it will become a annual trip. It's great to fish for them HAWGS like that. Oh and BTW, before anyone jumps all over me, the fish weren't spawning yet and we released them all

Fishing 24/7 I was just casting and dragging the tube on bottom.Using the bowmount to control the boat to keep bottom contact. It is a very easy technique to learn. Use the lightest jig you can for the conditions. Hope this helps. Rob

Sorry it so long to respond, we launched out of Crystal beach so that must have been someone else. We did see another red Triton fishing real close to us. They were there 2 days in a row. I have a picture that has an aluminum boat in the background, is that you http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa28 ... ing141.jpg
Here's a pic of my big fish for the trip. We only caught 4 fish over 5 lbs but I lost count of how many 4 lbers we caught. That place is a fish factory.http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa28 ... ing139.jpg
