Anyone been down to the big lake??

Lookin forward to the salmon season and I am wondering if anyone has been down to Port Hope?? Still a little early?

Since when is Lake Ontario known as the big lake?

Seriously tho, Port Hope is a great place to fish salmon. Haven't been in 2 years but would like to this year. I'd say still early.

My Brother ran a Charter on Lake Ontario for 15 years but he stopped. Says there isn't as many Salmon as there used to be. He used to go out from Brighton and Picton. Used to be awesome Fishing in July. I remember us getting our limit by noon on many occassions. Double headers were a regular occassion. Most of the Salmon were Chinooks/Kings that averaged around 15-30lbs. I'd go back if I thought there was a good chance of hooking into several fish over the course of a day.

I only started chasing salmon two years ago on Lake Ontario and have done OK. Thats a 30 in the pic. followed by a 25 the next day Also have several 15-20lb and crazy leaping steelhead. Its also a hell of a lot closer than Campbell River!
Trust me the lake is big and gets bigger as the wearther goes bad!.

Lake ontario fishing charters are already catching some nice rainbows out about 7 miles out of port hope

What kind of tackle are they using out there these days. 15 years back it was downriggers with big flashers and those thin spoons. Someone told me they don't use downriggers anymore?

i've fished Salmon on both the Campbell River and Lake Ontario... much better in C.R. had the oppourtunity to live there many times throughout my ventures in life... great place to fish and relax... GO CAMPBELL RIVER!!! ... anyways i think Port Hope is a lil bit early at this time... but hey its worth a try if its not a huge trip... but come on Guys... Bass is opening soon... who even thinks about big trout anymore... lol... jk jk for all those trout and salmon guys... just a lil bit excited for Bass Season... but in my opinion its a lil early for Port Hope...
