SHORE FISHING.......

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I have to admit that since coming to Canada from the UK I have done little else than fish from my boat.

Back in the UK if you owned a boat you were in the more well off category and was not something that was fairly affordable to buy..so shore fishing is the way the vast majority of people fish over there.

However I find shore fishing soooo much more relaxing than boat fishing,no need for lauching etc etc.

I initially believed that boat fishing was the only way to go out here, but have definatlely changed my mind since finding a location that I have fished many a time with only limited success in my boat, then I returned and fished it from the shore and just keep on landing some nice fish time and time again.

However each way has its pros and cons, and I find that if the weather is crap and I feel the need-to fish-shore fishing is the only way to go.

I find it depends on the species...

sturgeon, cats, carp, gar: shore

bass, pike, walleye: boat

I do love the shore fishing though. The bridge accross the Mississipi in Galleta and the dam near the mouth of the Medawaska river are my favorite out of town shore spots.
In town, Vic Island, Billings Bridge, Long Island (above and below the dam), black rapids, and of course the canal! Dow's Lake has some of the best crappie fishing I've ever done; on the docks infront of the restaurant. Looking forward to trying koi fishing in Mckay Lake in the spring.

hi c,f,t,w

i did some realy good walleye fishing frome shore.....it all depend what you got in front off you...i was fishing the rapids in bouchette...this is where i caught a lot off walleye ,,limits... :P .

rapids are just great or power dam in the current...saw some night caught like walleye like crazzy down some power dam like the one in bryson.

and same thing for bass in some local lake,,,,,,,caught some nice bass ad good numers to frome shore....

as well as for brook trout.

its sher we can t cover a lot off water on shore........BUT we can cover some spot that we would not able by boat.,,,, .

but like you said, some species are a bit harder to chase frome shore,,,we just to find the right location..to target them...

I only shore fish in Port Hope for Trout in April...Before my buddy got a boat I fished from shore all the time as well. Carleton Place has some great shore fishing for Walleye's about 1/2 km from my home as well as Appleton, Almonte, Pakenham(huge pike caught there) and recently Arnprior at the bridge. In Port Hope is my favorite spot that my father and I hit every year as a father -son outing...He is getting up there in age now so not as much walking down the river as before. I caught my biggest rainbow out of a stream called Ragged Shute it was almost 12lbs and what a fight to land it..It took me up and down the shore for 20 min. Now you cant do that in a boat. The past few years though due to (global Warming) ithink...the trout have spawned earlier and are mostly back in the lake...MNR needs to look at this and maybe up the date to Late March if possible.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

The MNR updated their website and you have to re-find all the new links. Here is the link for urban fishing:

http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/Le ... 65427.html

You will then find links to various sites for Ontario, Ottawa etc. in the right hand side.

Shore fishing is the only thing myself and my two youngest kids do. Nothing better than picking a spot on a cool summer evening and letting the worm drift while we catch up on the day's happenings. My kids arer 14, 15 and 16 but the 16 year old doesn't have the patience to fish. We live in Kanata so it is quite easy for us to hit the Rideau at Kars, the Ottawa at Baskin's Beach, the Mad at Clay Bank or even Dow's Lake. We would love to find fellow Fish Hawker's and team up for an evening. As I've said many times on here I'm a true amateur and am only starting to learn the right lures/bait for the local species. I'd love for the kids to learn the exicitng hit of a pike or a walleye.

Boats are versatile and get you to new areas, but when you cue in on a nice offshore spot, man, you're havin drinks and bbq with friends, while pulling out nice bass and pike. Makes for a great day. One of those spots is on muskoka's Gravenhurst

that tread start 18 months ago........not bad,,

there should be more and more..publicity about shore fishing and familly fishing place..wit some docks and some place arrange for the porpuse.

ther is some stuff done..but more could be don..not everyone have the chance or the budget for a boat. or just not the place to put it or store it.

plus some poeple like me..just like fishing frome shore plain and simple.

its easy ....its effective. almost cost nothing(just parlking sometime..haha)......and there so many place to go.

by walking,, by car,, by buss ,,or by bicycle.

its a greatr way to bring familly together.,,and bring the kids out off the house and front off tv...outdoor sports.

little pleasure off life.....shore fishing.

Shore Fishing around toronto

Post by BigGuppy »

Hi,
Is there a group of people here that shore fish around the toronto area. I just started fishing this year and other than the Rouge River I don't know of a lot of places I can take my 5 year old?
