Headed out this afternoon withEric for a few hours on the water, it was a great day to be on the water.
We decided on Constance Bay and Buchams Bay. We headed to Constance Bay and decided to pull up to Steves (Troutnmuskiehunter) and shoot the breeze for a bit before fishing. Good talking to ya and we will take you up on the offer sometime soon.
We decided to just drift and cast. I decided to throw some big baits hoping for a big pike, well on my third cast, just as my lure is at the side of the boat a muskie decides to come up and take a sniff and then bolted away before I could react, he wasnt huge but a nice fish.
Eric caught 2 decent pike back to back and then we didnt get anything for a while. I decided to break out my "New Old Reliable " since my last two have been destroyed by 90% of the fish I have caught this year. First trolling pass bang! A nice Bass.
We decided to head back around to the Buchams side and troll our way back in like the last time we were out there, hoping to have the luck we did last time as well. We started trolling in around 9 ft. of water hoping for some eyes. I am still using Old Reliable" and my rod goes and its a pike around 3 or 4 lbs. Next run my rod goes again and its mr wally.
I say to Eric looks like the fish are on the feed. Then as we were turning my rod doubles over and line starts peeling. I manage to get the rod out of the holder and tell Eric this is a big fish. It took a while but we finally got her to the side of the boat and low and behold what has old reliable crunched in her mouth? A nice Muskie! Man what a fight!. Now here is the only problem, we were fishing for eyes and my net was not big enough to get her in, we tried to get her at least part of the way in the net and cut the hooks but she decided to lunge ( excuse the pun ) into the net and not only did she go through it like a hot knife through butter but she broke the frame of the net as well! So I decided not to waste any time trying to get her unhooked and in the boat for a pic, I grabbed my pliers and cut the hooks so she could swim away. I really wish I could have gotten a pic cause she was large and only my second ski ever but I didnt want it to be harmed.
Now I am going to have to get a new net and a muskie net in case something like that happens again. By the way she wasted no time taking off.
And just in case you are wondering " Old Reliable " is a# 13 origional floating rapala in blue and white, everything loves this lure!
Trolled for eyes and got a surprise!

Gee Al, how did I know you were going to reply to this one? I said to Eric, when I post this Al is going to jump on me about the net!
I prefer to blame it on all the big fish I have caught since last year.
Where have you been anyway?
You need to get out with me at some point.
Now I am off to Niagara for the weekend.
Gord I may just come and see ya about a net or two.
And Steve there are obviously big girls prowling the shallow flats on the Buchams side as you come out into the river, this fish was a fun fight.
Now I am going to have to spend more money on gear!

Sounds like a little adrenaline must have been circulating through old Badger Shark...
How big do you figure your "lunging lunge" was?
Apparently still full of plenty of P&V at the boat to demolish your net. I've said it before, but no better way to catch a big one than to be totally unprepared.
A great fishing story; thanks for sharing it.

Hey Wolfe, I have no idea how big it was, wish I did but the head and mouth could easily have swollowed up my hand. The stupid thing is I have been talking about going to buy a new bigger net for awhile now but just havent had the time or money. I just started another job and it is on midnights so I work my first job from 3 till 10pm then go to the second one till 7:30am. The rest of the time I am trying to catch a few zzzzz's.
I took the weekend off and I am in Niagara Falls for a couple of days so maybe if the wife lets me I will stop at Bass Pro on the way home.
