You can check out behind the Britannia Filtration plant as mentioned numerous times in previous posts. Take Britannia road to the very end, hang a right, as you approach the plant, stay left where the road forks. As you go around behind the plant you'll see parking for 2 cars, just before that area is where others have been trying for them....Between the mainland and the island right there.
I have hard time to believe there is fish in POOLE ....is in there enough water for anything except frogs:)
Wall-I-Guy - I know for that spot but I was never able to catch one there. Looks like premium sucker spot thought
I was getting a lot of sucker on flies and believe or not catfish using the spoons
As posted b4 if you do target these wonderful fish, downsize your tackle and be very commando about gettin to them they are very spooky fish.Small minnows, flies, and nightcrawlers is your best bet, also try #0 or#1 spinners tipped with a piece of night crawler.single eggs may trick them too.
Trout are a main target for mne out towards T.O and if any more tips are needed feel free to ask. T.L F.F
I haven't fished down behind the filtration plant in a number of years since moving back from Saskatchewan. It use to be that you could launch a boat down there. You had to drive over the curb and across the lawn but it was a pretty good launch. Is that still there or is it gone ? If I remember correctly I think it's gone. If so that's too bad because it was the only boat launch for that piece of the river on the Ontario side. I've had many good catches from that area of all kinds of fish but never managed a brown.
Darling Long Lake has stocked browns and I was told just yesterday that Scully Lake just past Calabogie and Shiner Lake has browns. bobfly
BTW, caught a nice 16" Rainbow at Shiner yesterday on an attractor pattern I use to catch pike. If someone would kindly tell me how to post pictures, I'll post a pic of "dolly".
Fishboch,
There is a launch on the Quebec side (Aylmer) exactly across the river from Brittania filteration plant. You can launch there and possess fish with your Ontario licence as long as you are on the 148 or south of the 148 (apparently a provincial agreement).
Having said all that, I have been fishing that area quite extensively for a few years now and have caught almost every type of fish that the Ottawa River offers up and I have yet to catch a trout there.
Now, if someone is catching trout there please inform me of what I could do to catch them.
In regards to browns...Now this has been posted b4.They are in the britania area and in the duchenes rapids but are very hard to find or hook up with, that area gets very shallow and clear and tends to make for spooky fishies ,I have seen a few pulled last year from that area,in Sept last year my partner went 2 for 2 in the rapids using brown wolly buggers under a float.1st you would go live bait I>E small minnows, worms, bugs of sort.On the fly is your best bet patterns are up to you, small spinners and mini cranks are a good go to bait aswell.always use a light lead or light line for they have real good sight and can be real picky too.Early morn and dusk to dark are your best times to target them, though they can be caught throughout the day also.If you r willing to take a drive towards Kingston the fall when the salmon run is prime time for browns!!!The norm set up is a float rig which I have posted before and they are real whoppers that time of year too!!!If you have any ? regarding where to go,what to use,and when I am more than happy to offer my tips to you!!!
My name says it all,I love to fish for trout and have gained quite a bit of knowledge on how to pursue them succesfully over the years. The fly is probably your best bet to get em in the ottawa area though a fly rod is better you can easily use flies in different methods. You may bottom bounce sinking flies on the same rig as a walleye fisherman would use to get themm in deeper water.Off the wall methods will work to,when using bass or walleye tactics you are in the same area that a brown is this may be a fluke fish or what they want in thier diet that day. These fish arent huge like the gr8 lakes browns but can be caught if the right presentation is used and the timing is right.
I hooked one near the rapids on the ontario side right near the bridge to Aylmer. The fish hit a white jig and broke me off on the rocks( damn ultralite!)
