Frogs
Frogs
Hi everyone
I have been trying a scum frog all summer and have not had any luck. However, I have caught a few on twister tail brand rubber frogs . I also have caught lots on a leopard frog jitterbug.
My question is what brand/type of frog lures do people here recommend?
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve, I'm not sure it really matters. I like Tournament Frogs, but I have Spros as well. I usually cut the legs shorter on the Spros as I find them very very long.
I think the bottom line is that if fish are aggressive enough to hit the topwater through the pads or weeds, then I'm not sure it really mattes. I do find however that the ones with pattern on the "bottom" (a little red, white, or yellow") can often entice a bite better, since they see the bait from below, not what's on top. Certain brands also float a little differently than others.

If you want to try the best Toad on the market, check out 152 Street Baits in Fla.

By far the best toad I have ever fished.

Try Gambler Cane Toads
Try the Gambler Cane Toad - I have had incredible success everytime I use them - green mostly. It can be difficult getting a good hook set but the bass just love them! Twitch on the surface with a slow-steady retrieve past points, logs etc. Really effective bait.
That's really unfortunate! I love fishing topwater... I find myself either "on edge" the whole time anticipating the hit... or, I daydream, and then those hits scare the crap out of me!!Jamsers wrote:I've never had a hit on a frog.....
Top-waters and me don't go!
My friend caught a big Walleye on a rubber frog last time we were out though.

Walleye, eh? That'd be pretty cool!

I just bought a couple to add to the the one that I had... i don't really know what they are, but I bought a couple of different one's to try'em out. I do have to work on setting the hook though (not setting the hook too soon that is).
cheers,

Normally cranks, jigs and senko's are what work for me.
Spinners too!
J
Jitterbugs and variations of spooks are great for me (caught a ton of pike with the spook!). I've had a LOT of success with jointed floating rapala's for smallies - just casting and letting them sit for 10 seconds, then one twitch if they haven't hit already. Recently I've been testing frogs over top of slop - lots of hits... one huge LMB landed. That same frog got hit by a pike and sliced it up pretty good too. Nothing on a buzzbait yet, but I haven't fished it much or with much confidence.
Keep trying, it's more addictive than... 'normal?' fishing!
