The mister and I took our oldest son out in the boat today, first time this year, on Otisco Lake. It was only in the 50's (F) upon leaving but the day improved. Was hoping for my 1st landed tiger musky but instead managed to get a small but beautiful trout. Think it was a brown, but I'm not trout-smart. It hit on a beetlespin, which my husband had just put down for a moment to fiddle with something on the trolling engine. When I picked it up to finish the retrieve, it was on and put up a nice fight. I guess it was about 13". I also got a huge smallie on a timberdoodle. Got him unhooked quickly without bringing him in the boat. He was about 18". Hubby got a couple of smaller bass that were hitting pike lures; one L/M and one S/M. Ty boated a feisty sunfish. On the way back in, we saw some guy land a very large carp.
It was a fun couple of hours, and although we didn't pound them (and I soooo wanted a pike or musky!!), it was just good to be out there. Saw a lot of nice fowl and birds, too, including a great blue heron and a pair of loons.
Will try to post some pic's later.

Hi, all.
Thanks, Big-O. It is really a scenic spot we live in. Never tire of looking around in wonderment, as I grew up in the suburbs of NJ and am a transplant to the rural life. I'm lovin' it. Only 2-3 more weeks 'til Bass Pro Shops opens their doors in Auburn, NY!!!
RJ, As CCB mentioned, Tigers opened 1st wknd in May (I am a good girl, fishing within season
). Otisco hosts only Tigers, not the "real" thing. Anyway, I didn't get lucky enough to see even the hybrid version. Oh well, it was sure fun, anyway. Funniest part of the outing was when 6-yr old Tyler fell asleep on the boat ride back with a big cherry lollipop in his mouth.
Very cute.
We got stopped by a couple of CO's. Had a little chat with them and they were on their way. Pleasant enough guys, just doing their jobs. They had a big interest in the trout -- size, whether we kept it, etc. Saw some other CO's questioning shore fishermen, as well. Heavy presence on the lake today.
WIG, I can see you are going to tease me for letting all my (tasty) fish go! Most people look at us kind of funny when they see us sending our fish back, regardless of size or species. Imagine they think we're a bit daft...
Hope everyone had a fun day today, even you, Cracker, as you hauled your fragrant load of manure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
