Off Shore Planer Boards - Flag or No Flag

Should I use the tattle flag lits with Off Shore (OR12) planer boards for walleye ?

I bought the tattle flag kits but the instructions state that they should only be used for light hitting fish. I know walleye are light hitters but is a 15lb'r getting pulled at 2-3mph against his will, still considered o.k. for the tattle flag kits ?

I might get to try them out Sunday on local water but would like to outfit them properly for the BOQ.

Not required for Quinte walleye.....local waters with dink walleyes....yes...

Never had to use them on my planers for local small eyes or for BOQ hawgs!

It does not matter what size the fish are...the flag will drop no matter what so why not use it...I know someone who uses them a lot in BOQ...works great for any hit light or hard...Again with the flag kit you are looking for the flag to drop and you would see it drop pretty good with a big girl on the end

I upgraded to the tattle kit about a month ago.
Works great on mississippi lake, but as soon as you use deep diving cranks as needed for BoQ the flag stays three quaters of the way down.
So, I revert to "tournement" rigging the board.
That is rigging from the main top clip to a clip attached to the bottom of the pillar.

you can adjust the sring to make it tighter so that when using your deep crank baits the flag will stay up. Flag kit advantage alows you to tell if you get weeds on your crank as well. Let's you know that your lure is running good.

That settles it...I'll try them as-is but have the flag kits and a screwdriver in the glovebox.

No need for tattle flags when fishing for Quinte fall walleye. Always run two (or more) boards out the same side of the boat and it is very easy to read the in-lines as one falls out of line when it picks up weeds or a fish. Also the off-shore boards run and read better when they are rigged with two clips on the arm and not using the rear clips, because the board lays over when a fish is on and clears easy when changing baits.

The stock springs on the off-shore boards will not let you pull any deep diving crank-bait that gets down to 25+ feet. The flag will collapse with the drag of these large deep diving baits. If you like you can replace the stock spring with heavy spring, but as I mentioned this is not need in most cases.

I will cover some great tips on reading and tuning in-lines in my seminar on Friday.
