RJ you blame the wrong people man! The MNR is the problem! Your allowed to keep a fish over 30 " and it happens daily...... it's fishing! Tourny or not.... JB has an annual event I dont blame them and it brings some of the best anglers together for a great weekend. Man your bounty fish is covered in BLOOD, I didnt want to bring it up but do you think all your fish survive>>>????

Badger Shark....for a guy who's been to Quinte every weekend for the past month I'm surprised to see you think it's a good thing to see this going on....there goes a large number of large fish that you won't catch in future trips.....

RJ where does it say I think this is a good thing?

I wrote what I wrote because all you see lately on alot of posts are comments that seem to directly or indirectly critisize.

I do not disagree what with you wrote but how you wrote it. I actually wondered if the fish were released as well. Unfortunately when there are tournaments fish are caught and held in livewells and until that is banned there is nothing really we can do about it. I think that all Quinte eyes should be released but it is the right of people with the proper license to keep a couple.

As Spence said it is sometimes really hard to convey what you want to say by writing it on a message board and can easily be seen as critisizing.

Once again guys congrats on finding a pattern that works, those are some of the nicest hog seen last weekend.

Martycoo, Yes my Bounty fish nicked a gill raker and bled....or course fish die at Quinte upon release....but the less the better right?

Yep blame the MNR... ..Did they set up the event?...

Badger, It's my nature to say something when I see something that in my eyes is hurtful to our fisheries...if people take it as criticism...well...too bad...I can voice my opinion....I did it respectfully...burying your head in the sand and congratulating them will solve nothing.....just imagine if someone setup a tournament like this every weekend...and like you said....there is nothing stopping them....shouldn't us as anglers who care for the fishery say something????

It appears we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one...

RJ let it go man, Your lil " get togethers " probably do just as much damage. I was reading the results of one of those. 45 anglers , 47 kept fish, 281 fish releases, are you kidding me. The 47 fish you killed is over 3 times as many as the tournamnet had. And I hope you arent dumb enough to believe that all 281 of those fish that were released survived. You can come back with a "those were smaller fish" Small fish turn into a Larger fish" Rememeber that all those 10 lbers were smaller fish at one point. You are Holier than thou because you killed them before they had a chance to get big? Give me a break. If your MNR is so awful and you are smarter than they are then why dont you take a drive down this spring to our walleye hatchery and talk to some of our NYS DEC employees as they go through the egg taking process here. Maybe then you can find out what size walleye are the good breeders.

So, when your lil " get togethers" don't happen anymore then maybe you have a little room to speak. On top of that your crew got accused of taking alot more fish than that didnt they RJ? I had no intentions of keeping a fish. I actually didnt keep one. The one 12lber that died was given to a local angler who wanted it bad. If I did want to keep one, I have that right.. I have a Canadian license that allows me to do so.

I was reading through alot of your past posts last evening and it seems like you are " the Fish God" often causing controversey. Judging others and constantly looking for something to pick at. You need another hobby, grab a book or something. Maybe go back to school and become a MNR guy. Maybe you missed your calling. You seem to be "that guy" who knows more than anyone else.

What's really funny is that if I was in a dark room unable to see outside I could tell you the seasons by this board...Same thing every year before first ice and just before ice off....

My own personal season meter

ok gentlemen....everyone take a step back and take a deep breath please. There is no need to make anything personal please. Debate is good....personal attacks are NOT, and all that will accomplish is getting a good thread locked or deleted.

Thank you for your cooperation

Obviously the same opinion is not held when it comes time for members of the largest bass tournament circuit in Eastern Ontario to schedule and fish 2 day weigh-in bass tournaments on much smaller bodies of water that are heavily fished and have bass tournaments almost every weekend of July and Aug. This year it was Muskrat Lake (40 boats) and Big Rideau (80 boats).

And yes we know bass and walleye are different. However, at the end of the day both species can die after being kept in livewells all day and we all know that more than a few smallies get tossed during the day because they came out of 30 ft of water with a tube halfway down their gut and that 1/4 lb dead-fish penalty might be expensive.

And in case anyone interprets this as me being anti-tournament, I participate in as many tournaments as I can (even if my results are not that good). I also hope to sign up for the largest bass tournament circuit in Eastern Ontario a few years hence when my weekends will not be so clogged with other stuff I would rather not be doing.

Landshark,

I hope you enjoyed your reading last night...ya had to go back to either 04 or 05 for that one.... bringing up the American issue puzzled me until I saw you were from NY....anyways...you've made it personal against me as your way of justifying what happened....so in hindsight I guess I should have been more critical of the organizer of the tournament than you guys...

Do I partake in these types of controversial topics?....everytime....because I have an opinion of which I am entitled to....and obviously I have no fear of expressing it.....does it make me a "fish god"?... ...Funny...a Pot Stirrer maybe....but if one guy that did that tournament on the weekend thinks about the senseless waste of 12 plus pound eyes and doesn't partake next year....I'm good with that!

Beachburger,

I am not anti-tournament by any means...and yes I fish Renegade...compare apples to apples in this case....come out to a weigh-in.....I was always critical of it myself until I saw it.....Fish Care is of the utmost importance to the Club....even if it takes 90 minutes to weigh in....they now boast according to Shimano the most advanced live release/weigh in system in Canada...hope to see you on the circuit soon....it's a blast!

Anyways....put it all to bed.....Andy...delete it all if you want...

I'm not going to delete it....there is NO problem with debating a subject...in fact i think its great to see both sides. When it becomes personal is when we have an issue guys :) so lets keep it non-personal :)

Ok.. I have read all the notes and everyone has valid and not so valid points (matter of opnion) and some maybe personal which should not be the case on FH. I agree with Andy!!!!

Never the less here is my 2 pennies on Quinte fishing... I am an avid eyes fisherman and each year about 12 of us go to Quinte for an annual get together. The gang has been going for about 27 years (sleeping in tents in the bush and moved up recently to cabins) I am really considered new. In the 8 years I have never landed a single walleye in Quinte. The gang on the other hand do in fact bring in enough for a good feeding. I tally my costs and over the course of 8 years I figure I have put back into the community, the ministry alot of monies. But hey... I will keep going and someday I will land my 13 or 14lb eye... Now what I do with it is yet to be seen but I have a pretty good idea.

Excellent report and I see tournament fishing in a whole diffrent perspective.

compare apples to apples in this case
If you have a beef with the way other tournaments run their weigh-ins, perhaps you should take it up with those who run the weigh-ins and not those who enter the tournament, catch a bunch of big fish, win the tournament and post a bunch of really nice pictures that others can enjoy here on F-H.
come out to a weigh-in.....I was always critical of it myself until I saw it
I have been to a Renegade weigh-in and there is no doubt they are a model that tournament organizers can aspire too. But that does not mean the weigh-ins without the benefits of those resources are little more than fish killing machines as was implied earlier in this thread.

Does Renegade offer to provide their weigh-in resources and system to other large tournaments in the area? Something to think about if not.

As far as I know Renegade has worked for years to acquire and pay for their system....I highly doubt it will be lent out...

To those who have PM'd me in the past 12 hours supporting my point in this matter...thanks...I don't feel so alone on the island anymore...

P.S. Look at this weather....let's go fishin!
