I am no expert... that being said; I used to live in Lacole and LOVED the smallie action in Lake Champlain. Incredible. It is a very shallow lake. I would be quite certain that the water temp is between 44 to 48 F... if you can find a hole somewhere with a drop greater than about 25% going down from 4 feet or so to a good 15 to 20ft(Difficult in such a flat bottom lake), I would park there and fish the incline (From shallow to deep) all day long pitching every thing I could REAL slow... from jig and pig (I am just getting into those!) to slow spinners to rogues. When you find them... they will be with LOTS of friends!!

Good luck and post some results and pics (Skunked or not!)

Lake Champlain at the mouth of the Richelieu is shallow, but it's a pretty deep lake overall. Missisquoi Bay should have some weedy sections and reefs that will hold bass.

I grew up in St-Jean sur Richelieu and spent many a weekend learning to fish in the Chambly Canal. The Richelieu River itself has pretty good fishing all along its upper stretches. The Quebec Gov't releases brown trout in this section and I've heard that the results have been promising.

However, it's been 40 years since I fished the area so any info I offer should be checked out by visiting local websites.
Time's fun when you're having flies.
