First time ice fishing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

First time ice fishing

Post by gkilla »

This will be my first time ice fishing and I was thinking of going around the manotick area ( Long Island Locks maybe? ) and was wondering if there was a place to "rent" an auger? I am not too sure how often I will be going out and sort of wanted to try ice fishing first before committing to buying. Planning on going Sunday.

Depending on how busy things are you might be able to find an old open hole.

You may also be able to find someone who'll drill ya a hole for a couple of $$$ or even free!

I'd go in the evening though....

I took my kids out to Petrie the other day and found 4 old holes that only had a thin layer of ice over them. :D We used an axe and a steel driveway ice scraper to create a couple more holes. It took about 5-10 min to cut through 9" of ice.

Unfortunately, we got skunked :(
