mississipi lake help

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

mississipi lake help

Post by 86Robinson »

Hello everyone new to the forum wanted to say hello. My girl friend rented us a hut for this weekend on mississppi lake for my b-day. Just wondering how the fishing is out there Id like to get some pike and pickerel. Everything I learned last year doesnt work for me. Is anyone getting anything out of there, should I be lookin for weeds or sharp drop offs. Im really lost here any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi and welcome

if you rented a hut, you wont be moving much.

walleye bite on that lake is nightime.... the bite starts at sunset and ends after sunrise, unless you find them in a deep spot of the lake somewhere...

what to use?

minnows-shinners - medium size

Sometimes the bite can be EXTREMELY light.... you wont notice they are on.... I pulled out a nice one a while back on my tip-up that didnt even go off, and I dint even know I had one on until it got to the hole!... NO FIGHT whatsoever.

If you do feel the bite/nible... give them time to swallow the hook before you set it.

Have FUN!

I can echo that sentiment....

I know a few people who have fished that lake this year. I know where your shacks are and they are in an area that does produce. I responded to your last thread.

Minnows work well as do yum grubs. My wife was out fishing the lake Tuesday night and the only "bite" they got was on a Yum grub.

Don't be discouraged! They were fishing a completely different section of the lake than you.

That basin where you are is the prime spot for eye's all Spring and Summer.

No not even a nibble. Could have used a flasher to see where those fish went. We hung in till after 6 nothing worked for us. Might try again one morning supposed to be a better time there for the fish.

We have had some luck this year - about 3 feeds so far. As well, I think almost everyone who has rented one of our shacks has caught something. Every thing from first thing in the morning to mid day to coming on dark to 9:00 p.m. We're in about 20 feet of water just off an island. We've been getting them just off bottom but some guys in the hut on the weekend had a Vex and said they got their fish suspended about 10 feet.
Hope this helps.
