This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Post by Question Man?? »

My Question is this if you could compare the taste of Carp to something what would it be? Also Catfish too?

How do you clean a Carp or Catfish. And are Carp ok too eat??

How do you cook em and how long???

Thanks I catch these fish all the time and wondered what they taste like or if you can even eat them???

Thanks People

I can't really compare carp to anything except when I fry the small ones they kind of remind me of bass or crappie.. Catfish are really uncomparable to me, they taste awesome - that's all I know.

If you keep a bullhead, make sure it is a smaller one (1lbers are good) as the larger ones tend to be more toxic. I just fillet them and fry them like perch or walleye. Sometimes they're good wrapped in tin foil on the barbecue with some salt, garlic, pepper & lemon juice added to the mix.

Carp are good in the same ways as bullheads but I find carp meat is best smoked. MMMMMM..

I'm not sure this will help but when I tried carp I cooked it up as follows; a clean fillet - no bones or skin; soak the fillet in milk for 3 to 5 hours; discard the milk; place the fillet in a skillet or pan with enough milk to just cover it and add 2 or 3 granite stones about 1 to 2 inch in diameter; bake the fillet in a 350 oven until the flesh flakes{ this depends on how thick the fillet is}. When cooked, throw out the carp and eat the stones. Actually I have cooked carp in milk which is a traditional method with some ethnic groups.. I found the taste disgusting.
If you have ever eaten trout that have a muddy taste, simply multiply that terrible taste by about 5 and thats what carp tastes like to me. Of course there is no accounting for ones' individual tastes.

Oh yeah, make sure the carp is no bigger than 6-8lbs otherwise you'd be better off with those granite stones old guy mentioned.
